I've died about ten times inside the **** of *****, trying to defeat Malyn Varen. No matter what I do, I get engulfed in giant fireballs and before I know it, I'm dead. I'm at level 29. I've got plenty of magicka but I can't heal enough to stay alive with fast healing. I've tried some shouts without much success. I have some hefty plain armor and a good shield, and robes, and some strong magic robes, the mask of ****, also the Staff of M**** and the Mace of **** Bal. Seems like that ought to be enough.

Back home in Breezehome, I probably have some charms and armor that will increase my fire resistance. Do I need that sort of thing? I could travel there to get it before entering the star.

Without giving me outright spoilers, can you offer some suggestions about how to prevail?

Anyway, as for tips. Come back at a later date and try again, when you're more powerful? Don't use the staff of Magnus summoned Dremora will kill you. Summon things yourself, that might make it easier. Besides that stock up on potions and try again.

I used a bunch of "summon Storm Atronach" scrolls to distract them after popping a ton of potions for resistance, and hunted down Malyn as fast as possible. I think Ice-Form shout+Fireballs was the combo I used to take him down quickly, though I could be remembering wrong.

Sanguine rose really helped me get that done.

They can do a lot of damage, but if you rush them they don't fire ,and go down in a few hits on expert.

I just spammed him and his dremoras with my damage magicka/health staff...drained it entirely, twice, but considering the reward for the quest...well you don′t worry too much about draining anymore.
