Dehyration, Starvation, sleep deprivation explained.

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:47 am

The game is about to release so I figured I'd break the ice for those wondering how it works in hardcoe.

So you have 0-1000 points of Dehydration, Starvation, and sleep deprivation 0-199 is normal levels and after that you start facing penalties.

200-399 Minor Dehydration : -1 End, Dark Hud

400-599 Advanced Dehydration : -1 per, -2 end, Light Hud

600-799 Critical Dehydration : -1 per, -3 end, -1 int, Red Hud

800-999 Deadly Dehydration - -2 per, -3 end, -1 agi, -1 int, Pulse Red

1000+ Death

For starvation the same scale is applied however it effects mainly strength and charisma, for sleep agility and intelligence are the main stats penalized.

Difficulty depends on the rates, these are the rates on "Normal".

It doesn't say the rates but it does say Dehydration is the fastest to degrade, than starvation, and sleep.

It doesn't say how quickly dehydration happens? I don't want to have to hydrate fifty times in an hour.

So changing the difficulty to higher or lower settings does indeed effect the elements of hardcoe game play, especially when it comes to the 3 bodily needs.

EDIT: IF anyone wants a spoiler PM me and I can browse through my trusty Collectors edition guide and see what I can find for ya.

I realize that the effects of drugs in game would be beneficial to counteracting the penalties of dehydration, deprivation, and starvation; but I'm wondering if there are drugs in game that would directly target the hardcoe mode features. Like stimulants, as an alternative to sleep. What would be funny, is temporary access to Wild Wasteland for lack of sleep or hydration; as hallucinations. :P

I have a feeling it will have like subsidies when you are lacking sleep or food or whatever, found in drugs and etc. I'm looking through the hardcoe area of the guide right now where it explains that stuff let you know if I find anything.

That's rather amusing that you can actually die from lack of sleep.

Yeah one would think you would pass out before dying of sleep deprivation. But it does actually happen IRL.

Like that crazy WoW player in Korea or something. Played like 2 days straight and decided to finally take a break but croaked over dead instead.

Actually there have been reports of at least one starcraft loser in korea dying from playing for like 5 days strait without any sleep. I think he was chucking down red bulls to stay awake if i remember the story right.

It can increase the risk of getting diabetes, which can cause death.

There's Fatal Familial Insomnia (svckage).

And even reports now that lack of sleep ranging from five weeks to four months might cause death in humans.

I'm guessing, that at least for water death would probably take 3 gamedays give or take depending on difficulty.

Nuka Cola starves off the effects of sleep deprivation at the expense of increasing dehydration, which is kinda funny because soda dehydration is a widely believed myth.

More probable you pass out for several hours and the game hand waves something eating you or killing you not necessarily in that order.

Yeah i know all about dying in real life from lack of sleep. I guess they figured it was better to kill you than make you just spontaniously pass out. Which was probably a good call.
