I wasn't scared of dentists growing up. Ironically this didn't work to my advantage, because that actually gave me less incentive to take good care of my teeth. Never had to have a root canol though.

Today things are different. Thinking about dentist appointments actually unnerves me a bit, but for financial reasons haha. The only nightmares I ever have are about my dental hygiene.

I don't mind it, I would rather not go though lol. I can see why you hate it so much though! Root canols are supposed to be really painful.

I like dentists, they are generally very nice people who care greatly about their patients (at least in my experience) - but I hate having to go to the dentist more than anything.

I don't really fear them but the past two that I went to were a bunch of idiots. The first one gave me way too much anesthetic (very painfully I might add) which made me walk around with my lip feeling like a balloon, he then proceeded to nick my tongue with the drill which meant all my food for the next day or two tasted exactly like his stupid cleaning solution.

The second one told me I couldn't even bite onto "the softest marshmallow" (word for word quote) using a tooth that I chipped (I'm an idiot) until I'm 18 and have a permanent cap put on. I'm 15. Does that mean I have to wait 2 1/2 years before I can use the front half of my mouth? To hell with that! I can eat a burger and not feel any discomfort so I don't know why that woman was so paranoid.

I′m thankful that I was not born in the begining of the XX century. Back then, going to the dentist must have been quite a horror tale.
Nowadays with technology advancement it′s no big deal. The only problem is the bill as summer said.

I like my dentist. He's always been very good, and other than the uncomfortable nature of injections, he's never done any wrong to me (that I know of). And I've been through a lot of dentist work. I've had other dentists (well, orthodontists) and they've never been as good.

The bill is the worst part of it.

Hurts your pocket just as much as your teeth

Going to the dentist ain't that bad really. Of course I rarely have cavities now and most of the time all they have to do is a cleaning and waxing and I'm all done.

I had a(nother) tooth pulled a few weeks ago. I wish they had those new plastic flossing picks years ago instead of regular rolls of floss. I might have more teeth than I do.
IF YOU GOT 'EM FLOSS 'EM !

Someone already touched on the idea of dentistry in past centuries....hard to imagine the pain.

Eh, I don't hate 'em. Just haven't been in forever. Last time I went was to get my 2nd and 3rd cavities filled like 6-7 years ago. Moron didn't put enough Novocain in the first time and grabbed the drill and I was like "Woah woah, buddy. I can feel everything" so he got a huge glob and then the entire right side of my face went numb. I could still feel the drill, though. Bleh.

Great point. I recently saw a dentist after not seeing one for 2 years and despite having 9 cavities that needed to be filled over the course of two visits, having some laughing gas was great. The visit itself (and time after while the gas was still in effect) wasn't too bad. But having sensitive teeth for months later was awful. I can't hate the dentist because of my poor dental hygiene though.

I remember going to the dentist twice in my life, one went super horrible (the dentist was a student and the fact that I was really young and suffer as Nami88 call it, Severe gag reflex, she complained most of the time and only finish cleaning my teeth half way) and one went decent (he gave me a clamp to hold the X-Ray square so I don't suffer from the said gag reflex).

I don't hate them, just that I don't have enough experience with them.

I have a genetic abnormality that makes my body produce weak enamel. By 'weak', I mean I used to have multiple cavities every time I went in for a checkup (particularly the year I had braces; what a bucket of fun THAT was). I still have recurring nightmares about my teeth shattering like glass.
I wasn't afraid of my dentist- he was actually very nice. I wasn't even afraid of having my teeth filled; I'd just close my eyes and envision myself someplace else. What did bother me was the tool they use to clean your teeth- I was terrified I'd feel a jolt of pain every time they came near my gum lines. That thing still makes me uncomfortable. Eeeegh.
