Desktop.

It has far better performance compared to laptop if they are from same price class.

I do own both Desktop and Laptop, and both are able to run modern games. But my Laptop still falls far behind from my Desktop.

Desktop, for the same reasons mentioned already. I like using my laptop for my work and for browsing etc too, and its def handy for travelling, but if I was going to use a laptop for gaming, it'd have an extra screen and keyboard and everything plugged in. I'm just more comfortable that way :)

I prefer a desktop for what I do with computers most (Hint: Gaming), but I would like a laptop as well, simply because it's nice to have a portable PC to take with you.

Desktops and Laptops both have their own merits, and I don't think one could really be considered better then the other because they're made with different uses in mind, most of which can be done by both but done better by one or the other.

Desktop. I hate trackpads and cramped keys. Plus you can build a PC yourself to save a ton of money.

Gaming wise desktop are cheaper and easier form what I've seen. That said I own a laptop but when I get the chance I'm going to get a good Desktop. My laptop is able too run games like Oblivion or The Withcer, but with newer game i can't max the settings.

used to hate laptops. mostly because i hate track pads/nubs (in previous generations) (and god forbid the big rollerball) but quickly realized that there are usb mouses.

i like laptops over desktops now because i like to stay in bed and get out for as few reasons as possible. if you have the money, like me, you can afford to get a comprable gaming laptop that will play on high settings.

Desktop because I mostly use it for games and don't need it to be mobile. Custom parts is a big plus too.

Desktop

For example:
A Desktop for 700€ (incl 150€ for the display) can play every game out there for the next couple of years.
To achieve this performance with a laptop you have to spend 2000€ or so.

Laptop. I don't play too many games on computer (I've got a 360 for that, but my laptop do handle modern games) so I'm pretty happy with my high-performance portable computer. It serves me well for whatever purpose I would have with it. I'm not too fond of desktops personally.

I had been using a laptop for convenience, but it broke, so now I'm back on my good ole desktop. It's better for gaming anyway.

Desktops by a mile. I absolutely hate laptops. I have a laptop for one and only one reason: I needed MS Access a few semesters ago for a class and thought it would be horrible to use on a netbook (something I still think is true) and didn't want to install it on my desktop (I say No to MS Office).

Why I hate laptops:

- Most aren't really portable (too clunky. 13'' is my max I think, but few laptops are made in this size).
- Battery life generally svcks (4 hours or so? Not enough when you have back-to-back classes and always too slow to get a seat near an adapter)
- Batteries slowly get weaker over time (which can be greatly expedited by improper charging tactics)
- Get hot during use
- completely unergonomic (cannot be positioned ergonomically, the keyboard layout isn't ergonomic and is cramped together, trackpad in an unergonomic position, and promotes unergonomic behaviors)
- horrible at note-taking (graphing and such)
- Significantly shorter lifespan than desktops (especially when you consider: laptops were never designed to be your go-to device, yet that's exactly how most people use them)

And a few other reasons I'm sure.

Planning on getting either an Asus Transformer, Asus Transformer Prime, or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (if it gets a keyboard adapter like the 10.1 did). It'll be many times more useful than a crappy laptop.

Laptop. I really want a desktop for the far superior price to performance ratio, but college demands a little portability.

Desktop. More bang for my buck. That being said, I need a laptop so I can do homework in places that aren't my room.

I'm using a laptop almost exclusively right now because my desktop fried (and scraping together the money to put together a new one doesn't look to be happening any time soon), but given the choice I prefer a desktop all the way. Much more power for what you spend on it, especially if you build your own.

Desktop. Primarily because I use multiple screens whilst writing, using them to display research material I'm referencing. Better performance is an incidental bonus.

Desktop. Cheaper for what you get, better performance, more upgradeable, better cooling, theoretically longer lifespan, etc. The only advantage to a laptop is portability.

I use a laptop as a desktop. I have my laptop docked at my desk and I have a mouse and keyboard attached to it and it's hooked up to a 24" monitor. It really comes in handy when I'm studying and writing papers to have the dual monitor access. My laptop also has a dedicated graphics card and it can play games so it's actually most beneficial to be docked because I don't know about other people but a touchpad is hard to use in an FPS. The thing I like the most is that I can take it with me if needed to give presentations or whatever I need it for. I also use a netbook for note taking and browsing the forums (which I'm doing now). As for one of the first posts about hard drive space, I have a 2TB hard drive connected to it (I got a good deal on it and I'll probably never fill it up :P). So, both.

I like my laptop for its portability, but I find desktops are superior to laptops in tech specs for a lower cost.

I vastly prefer desktops, as I then have complete control over what parts I put in it and are easily upgradable for gaming (upgraded my graphic card just 2 months ago).

When it comes to laptops I'm only interested in the most energy efficient models with excellent battery times, and they are obviously not very good when it comes to gaming. Laptops that use the Intel Atom platform or the AMD bobcat platforms. I would love to see a laptop that was energy efficient enough to be fanless.
