Details that make you go UNHH.

This game is just chalk full of em. Not just visual details, but little things... Research things... for example, I just found out that Draugr is a real term.

Now THAT'S clever!
What other things have you come across that make you stop, and really appreciate what Bethesda has done here?

Hrothgar (of High Hrothgar) was the name of a Danish king (that was also a character in Beowulf) although this struck me more as lazy/odd than ingenuitive.

edit: Also, why is the Dragur thing clever? I mean, wouldn't it be more clever if Beth had come up with their own name for them, instead of just using a term that already exists?

I appreciated that particular reference since Morrowind, which had them in its expansion pack, Bloodmoon.

While exploring I saw some tents and I thought I wanted to check those out. I get up to the tents and then I'm looking at 3 hunters who are taking a bath. 2 is sitting in the pool and just relaxing while the third is lying flat with her head above water. Other times I have seen people chasing something just to find that it is hunters hunting animals. Small things but it makes the game feel a tad more alive.

The entire Edda can be found in the game, with metaphors and subtle euphemisms. Sovngarde for instance is just like Valhalla. You'd be surprised to find Odin speaking amidst the rhymes.

Isn't Helgan a word in some languange. Regardless I think it's awesome if they can incorporate different cool names instead of using a random name generator like, Raminus Polius.

there is a puddle in the middle of the flat areas around whiterun.

a skeletal hand reaches up with a sword clenched in its hand. it is totally king arthuresque and lady of the lake. it isn't clever but it had me smiling.

Meh, having played:

Dark Souls, better combat
Saints Row, hassle free user friendly and random
Dead Island, exotic looking places
Borderlands, sheer enjoyable

Not very hyped about Skyrim, and face it, the story was sub par.

Finding a book called the "Book of Fate" and finding that it was blank. Really clever.

I liked it when you go to a prison and look it the "evidence chest", but it's empty too. :P

Didn't you know? TES didn't exist pre-Oblivion.

I know just enough Latin to know what "Septimus Signus" translates as.

Needless to say, I was pretty worried about what would happen once he finally got that door open...
