detecting skills of followers and npcs

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:04 am

I bet you can look at code to find out this stuff,

but I used a mod to give me detect skills.

it is pretty interesting.

one weird thing was that the skills of trainers did not match their in game function. for example a master trainer of archery only had archery at 44.

also, Vex's skills do not match her in game persona vis a vis sneak.

I found that creatures have a lot more hit points than you do, most of the time.

anyway...thought I would share the oddity.

I found the same sort of thing this evening. Alea the great bow expert and huntress actually had a bow skill of 32 and sneak in the twenties. No wonder she was so bloody useless in combat. After the disable/enable routine her marksman skill went up to 57 (this at character level 21) and she finally started to pay her way - still can't get her to stop using her plain hunting bow in favour of an enchanted dwarven special though.

You can take her hunting bow away from her using console. Open console, then target her (click on her), then type this:

getitemcount 0010e2dd
that will tell you how many hunting bows she has. Then type this:
removeitem 0010e2dd #
with # being how many bows the first command said she has.

Thanks for that, Svann, I'll give it a try.

Edit: OK, the dopey bint was carrying three hunting bows around with her. Why? I don't know, and why they don't show up in the inventory screen is an even bigger mystery.

Followers' default gear doesn't show up in their inventories - if this was a design choice then it was a dumb one, as far as I'm concerned.

They also suffer from a bug where if you dismiss them and then rehire them, they spawn a duplicate set of their default gear which you cannot see, but still counts toward their encumbrance. I remember a post from a few weeks back from someone who said he removed 14 hunting bows from Lydia's inventory using the console method described here.

Most followers are capped at level 30 or 50 check out this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0Aly8njaU3H1adGJYTlJaUnRxRUN2RnM5MkxPaU1mQkE&type=view&gid=0&f=true&colid0=1&filterstr0=J%27zargo&sortcolid=1&sortasc=true&rowsperpage=250

There are a couple other topics in this forum about followers I recommend reading them.
