Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Thread #3)

Post » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:33 pm

For those who have been living under a rock for the last year, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a cyberpunk FPS/RPG developed by Eidos Montreal, and the prequel to the original Deus Ex. it should only take 10 minutes of your time to learn all you need to know about this game, with the following two videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roK7Wc6thzM&hd=1 (Story trailer)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo4iOV5s6vI&hd=1 (Gameplay trailer)

Additionally, you could watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-FxYxPtMi4, and there are other videos as well if you look around.

So yeah. It's almost there! The 23th of August in North America, the 26th in Europe.

The latest news is that they dropped the UK region lock, which was going to prevent people from activating the UK retail version of the game outside of the UK, so for those who were about to cancel their pre-order over that, don't! :ahhh:

Dialogue choices/consequences, side quests, and character customization through augmentations on your body. You have a bunch of body slots in which augmentations can be placed, and you can choose which augmentations you want depending on the kind of playstyle you want to gp with (you can go all out shooting and violent, or you can sneak around, avoiding enemies, hacking turrets and robots to turn on your enemies...) , and which ones to upgrade with the points you get from doing missions and stuff.

The game should also offer plenty opportunities to explore. Not quite TES open world-like, but still offering quite a lot of freedom within the levels.

Having not being able to play trough invisible war due to technical reasons (crash on loadingscreen) I had originally decided not to get this game at launch..

..the trailers are psyching me up though so I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick to the original plan.

Still haven't quite decided if I'm going to buy this game or not. I'm not really too keen on the fact that the color palette is orange, everything is orange in every trailer I have seen. It also seems like everything they have shown off is either in a lab or in a warehouse :snoring:, definitely doesn't seem as varied as the original.

I haven't played Invisible War either. At least, not a playthrough that lasted over 4 hours. Then I gave up again.

Doesn't really matter though. HR is is a prequel to the first game, and draws all its inspiration from the first game. Invisible War seems to be mostly referenced when it's about what mistakes to avoid with designing HR.

Personally it's the best game I've played this year. I played only the first chapter, but find it already immensely better than DX1.
The environments definitely are mostly urban, since you spend most of the time in the city, buildings and other complexes. But I love that since I've been really longing for a cyberpunk game with a great urban environment.

And the color palette with its focus on gold and black looks great and gives it a unique touch in my eyes, that definitely sets it apart from other RPGs and FPS games.

I honestly don't get why everybody is SO cautious about this game, it just goes beyond ridiculous. I'm really glad that leak happened, because otherwise everyone would be so overly cautious about this game that no one would buy it until a couple of days later when the few who do buy it reassure everyone of its quality. If you've watched the gameplay videos, trailers, etc. I don't see how you could possibly think this was going to be another Invisible War.

Having played a beta build of the press demo, i can safely say that human revolution is going to be stunning.

After the debacle that was Invisible war, i was expecting the third iteration in the series to be the final nail in its coffin. Not so, human revolution is beautiful, more than that it's smart, perhaps not on the same scale as the original, but you can't replicate that kind of greatness. Stuff that i thought would annoy me, like the third person cover system, actually works extremely well, the controls are so fluid that i picked them up and mastered them in about 10 minutes, stealth works a hell of a lot better than it did in the previous games, since controlling your character feels so natural, getting caught is never a fault with the games mechanics, but your own blunders, and it feels right when you are caught. Sneaking through an entire level without being detected is a very rewarding feeling. Ammo is still scarce, so doing a Rambo is out of the question (I played it on the hardest 'Deus Ex' difficulty) So you need to pick your fights carefully, the health regeneration is so slow as to make it worthless in a gunfight. There are plenty of choices to be made too, perhaps not on the same scale as the original, but it's not something that feels railroaded in any way. The world itself is beautiful and feels alive, the musical score is fantastic. It just reeks of quality.

On the strength of the leak i pre-ordered the game, and i'm counting down the days until release.

Yeah I can easily wait out skyrim release with DX3 to play.

There has been too long of a gap for a good stealth game to come out.

Why would anyone region lock a game in the first place?

we do not speak of that game here. treat it like the myth about that star wars movie with the little kid. they do not exist. :glare:

i was a bit skeptical but after seeing how eidos montreal has gone out of their way to please the fans of the first.....er only deus ex and having played the press copy way back in january i have to say they did a fantastic job. my only two nitpicks are regen health. you can still die easily but as with any game with regen health its easy to abuse. my other nitpick is i hate getting the pop up messages that award you skill points ever freaking time i fart in that game. kill or knock out a guard 50 points. go into a vent 50 points. walk up some stairs 50 points. hell you get 100 points just for installing the game and starting it.

the rest of the game is great though. depending on how you design your character some areas are opened up while others are closed off.

It was the same way in DX1. Honestly I like it, I feel more rewarded and like I'm actually progressing.

in the first deus ex you got skill point pop ups on a much less frequent basis. for instance ever single vent you go in the new game you get xp. that didnt happen in deus ex. also you didnt get pop ups everytime you killed a guard in deus ex either. even when you did get them it was just a small little message that didnt blare out right in front of you. the skill poitn messages in the first game were pretty much limited to finding new areas in the game.

you may like them but i play games to play games i dont need a constant pat on the back telling me that im a good boy. in fact i hate when games hold my hand like that. same reason i hated quest arrows in oblivion.

fortunately the UI is one of the easiest things to mod in a game so i will just go in and comment out that section and not feel like a 12 year old.

It's not as bad as the original. you got points for flushing a toilet. :P

did you get points for that seriously? never even noticed. on my first couple of playthroughs i used every bubbler and sink etc that i could find cause i thought this would be a perfect game to have a hidden wall that would activate with a secre lever......kind of like the one at the subway but not so obvious.

i think the difference is in how they do it. most points you earned in the first game didnt show up on screen. you could look at your total in the menu and see it rise but unlike the current game which shouts it out to you it was more behind the scenes.

I pre-ordered Human Revolution for my PS3 and I plan on playing the first Deus Ex, but thus far, I have no experience with the series. I've already gotten estimates from others, but assuming I'm the type to explore my surroundings for fun, how long would the original Deus and/or Human Revolution last me... assuming I only play one playthrough? I may try more than one playthrough, but the really fun stuff is, in my opinion, only really during the first playthrough, so that's what I'm most concerned about. Also, is Invisible War really so bad that I should never even try it?

No idea about Human Revolution, but from what i hear it's shorter than the original.

As for Deus Ex. If you're the kind of person who likes to explore, then the game should take you between 20-25 hours to complete.

Wait a minute. If I explore, a single playthrough will only last me 20-25 hours... and Human Revolution is shorter? :sadvaultboy:
