Diablo2

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 12:48 am

Im about to start my first playthrough of Diablo 2(also playing Titan Quest), i know it weird how i've never played it before and i love games like this. (im 15 and was about 4 or 5 years old when this came out so it never really appealed to me.)

Never played the first Diablo, might get that after finishing D2 and Titan quest. Dont have anyone to play with, so im probably going to play solo unless any of you want to join, or if I can convince my friends to get this.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)
I might roll with a spellcaster class as im starting to get bored with going as a barbarian or fighter for the first playthough in these sort of games. I usually hardly go back for a second playthrough unless im playing with friends.

EDIT: If anyone wants to join me in my playthrough of Diablo 2, or Titan Quest: Immortal Throne send me a message and I will be more than happy to play with you.

Here's a tip: Don't play singleplayer. Play on Battle.net or don't play at all.

Playing Diablo 2 singleplayer is as much fun as watching paint dry

I like playing as a Skelemancer. Let the summons do all the work.

EDIT: I didn't know I like watching paint dry.

Skelemancers are fun but I always enjoyed Druids more. Hurricane / Tornado Druids ftw

whatever you do... don't create a Hammerdin (Paladin with that annoying hammer skill). Seriously, there are thousands of Hammerdin clones playing D2. Everyone hates them because they are OP

Didn't they nerf Blessed Hammer in 1.13? It would be silly if they didn't. Also, I love SP D2 (With mods, though). I would play with somebody, but I can't find many people who run Median XL.

I was actually thinking of playing Druid. Ill see what it comes down to.

EDIT: i cant play on Battlenet cause i bought D2 from a friend and he already used to Serial Key.
So, im trying to play LAN on the Tunngle program. Or if there are any other programs out there that someone has, i could download it to as long as its free.

I pretty much just used my Druid as a werewolf using rabies and such. Never really used the elemental aspect. Still need to do that.

Dunno

It's been years since I played D2... all I remember is that I rage quit every time I saw a Hammerdin do a solo Baal run on Hell <_<

My favorite character is a Paladin with the Zeal skill, or a Zealot. They are incredibly gear dependent if you want to survive in hell though. The easiest character to start with would be a Necromancer (Skelemancer) or a Sorceress and use them to magic find some decent gear for whatever else you want to play. Sorceress is great because of the teleport skill which makes getting through tough areas fairly easy. Skelemancers are great because they are not very gear dependent and can clear levels super easy, making it easier to find decent gear.

Whoops, it's 1.13..and yes, it appears they did. I thought I remembered it from somewhere.

Blessed Hammer - No longer ignores resistances of undead and demons.

Almost sounds like it was bugged, not intentionally OP'd. Huh. Then again, it wasn't listed under bug fixes. Also, they buffed Whirlwind for some reason. And, dumbest "balance" ever, they removed the Iron Maiden curse from Oblivion Knights. Seriously? Why not just make everything in the game walk up and casually slap you across the face?

Basically all that did was make it so that the bots that run Baal runs no longer decimate everything, other players actually have to help now :P.

That is a great tip. I played online for a while, and then tried the single player....I beat the first world/realm and that was as far as I could stand it.

It wouldn't hurt to play the single player. The only reason it'd make more sense to play multiplayer is the fact that you can play by yourself online, but you can also play with other people if you ever feel like it. If you make a single player character, its stuck on offline single player to prevent the player from using item makers and character editors.

We had a pretty active community playing Diablo back in 2008. The reason was because they released a new patch that altered some of the end game content. It got boring really fast..and had its run.

That being said, Diablo 2 is not a boring game. I'll play it for a good week at least once a year. There are so many unique items, so many enemies, and there are so many powerful character builds, combine that with a pretty interesting online economy and you have quite an amazing game.

The only good advice I can suggest to you is to take your time. The game is divided into 4 acts with roughly 8 quests in each act. It paces itself well enough, but theres plenty of room to grind and search for loot. Thats when you'll have some of the most memorable moments with the game, I think.

What a load of dung.  I loved playing Diablo II single player. Played every class (and usually several builds of each) almost daily for about a year and a half before I got tired of it. Battlenet can be a black hole of obnoxious jerks.

Yep.

Singleplayer is better than playing with random idiots.

(Now, if you can get a group of friends, so you're playing with non-random idiots...... :D)

Some of my fondest gaming memories come from Diablo 2 coop sessions with my best friend. The hilarious antics that would ensue were the stuff of legend, ranging from freak accident deaths at high levels from simple trapped barrels and vases, to relentlessly comparing our characters, getting into duels, then getting killed by random mobs of Hell difficulty potion throwing desert cats mid-fight.

Same, I used werewolf + some summons to help out.

One tip OP, picking skills for your class can be very strategic; using the druid for example - pick either summons or elementals and focus on one (or even one branch of one), and choose between either werebear and werewolf and only put points into the one that you choose.

This isn't a detail druid guide of course, but you should read up on some strategies about characters before you start. I think the guidebook in the battlechest has some good beginning character guides.

I started playing Singleplayer, and omfg this game is epic. (even though it was made over a decade ago)
I went with a Necromancer, im currently level 5 just starting the 3rd quest on Act I.

As i level up im putting 2 points in eng, 2 points in vit, and 1 point into strength. Dont know if this is good or not, its just how im going to roll. The reason Im putting 1 point into Str is for Wep Reqs.

As for my Skill Tree, i have 2 points in "Skeleton Summoning", 2 points in "Skeleton Mastery", and 1 Point in "Teeth".

I dont really know if im going to use golems as i already am using skeletons. (any help with that would be appreciated)

Im only going to put points into the first Curse spell, as it helps when im using my Summonings and once i get the "Revive" spell.

As for the Bone and Poison spells i think i might run with the Bone spells, as "Bone Spear" sounds epic

Put some points in dex or you'll start getting really really really frustrated about not being able to hit anything later on.
Go for skeles and golems, you can have both at the same time.

This might be a bit off-topic, but it's just been something I've been wondering about for a while. Does Diablo 2 work fine on a Windows 7 PC? I've never had the pleasure of playing it, but I've been thinking of getting it off Blizzard's site, but I don't want to waste the money if I have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to get the game to run. I did that with Deus Ex and I don't want to go through it again.

Should i alternate my Str point i use with Str and Dex every level?
So.. Lvl 6: +1 Str
Lvl 7: +1 Dex
Lvl 8: +1 Str etc..

Bone Spear is pretty epic. Its great for narrow corridors as it pierces through enemies until it hits a wall. Its a very linear attack, which is its downside.

Amplify damage is a good spell to compliment skeletons. I'd even suggest Decrepify. But amplify damage is good too! :)

Golems are just kind of fun to have around. They can be pretty useful early game, especially blood golems in Act 3 but once you run through the game on Nightmare and Hell they become somewhat useless.

You're going to have a lot of fun with skeletons, especially when you reach higher levels as you'll amass an army. Depending on your version of Diablo, you may be able to get more skeletons per skill point.

What version is your game?

EDIT: When I made a skele-mancer I put all my faith into my summons. As long as your skeletons can hold their ground you don't need to physically beat down anyone with a wooden wand. :P

Thats the latest update. So basically you can have up to 8 skeletons in your party once you have put 20 points (thats the max for every spell) into raise skeleton. In earlier versions, every point added another skeleton to your arsenal. Luckily for you that you can also put 20 points into revive, and 20 points in skeletal mages. You can also acquire armor, accessories and weapons that add points to all of your skills, increasing the cap far past 20!

That should fill your screen. :)
