Diamond Claw Puzzle Door in Skyrim will NOT open up! Bethesd

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:38 pm

I have been stuck on this damn puzzle door for over 3 hours now trying everything I've read on the forums, This puzzle door will not open up even with the right combination. I have tried leaving the dungeon and going back over 10 times. The autosaves are all inside the dungeon and i only have 1 save that is over 20 hours of gameplay behind. I love Bethesda and all they have done, but this is ridiculous.

I would also like to mention, yes i do have the Diamond Claw, its bugging, its common. but i do not see any solution to fixing this so far.If anyone knows any other way to fix this I would appreciate the help very much. I am playing on the Xbox360 by the way.

This bug has ruined the game for me. I honestly have not touched Skyrim for over 2 weeks because of this.

EDIT: This has been solved for me and a few others thanks to OverBleed's post below, however i would like to note that just because people have found their way around this bug does not mean it does not need to be fixed. :P

5. relaod and go back to door, do not use the key yet
6. align door rings in the right order then use claw door key

i have this for 360 but i hope this works for you if you have something else

Come on now i know i'm not the only one. I have been looking desperately for a fix only to find others asking for an answer.

The worst part of this bug is that you cant even zone out of Skuldafn and ignore the quest they even make you stay there till the questline is finished... its ridiculously annoying.

Are you sure you have the right combination
Spoiler
check the back of the Claw

it shows the right sequence or try TLC(no-clip) in console if ya on PC that is.

PS: Could you post a screeni of the caves location so i can try the mission out or just
the name of it and I'll try and find it on my game map.

I absolutely have the right combination, believe me its embedded into the back of my mind. As for the command you mentioned... unfortunately i did not do my first playthrough on the PC version (of which i also have on steam). Was hoping to beat it on Xbox360 and obtain all achievements then mess around with the PC version.

The name of the Quest is
Spoiler
The World-Eater's Eyrie, and at the moment i have succesfully captured the dragon in whiterun and used him to travel to Skuldafn. It is the puzzle that needs the Diamond Claw.

Also mentioning again... that i CANNOT head back to Skyrim which is $%^#ing annoying!

Why was this moved to Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers?..... This has nothing to do with any of those, this is a bug that has been overlooked for the past month.....

This worked the very first try man. This needs to be shared as much as possible! I will be bumping this every now and then to see if it helps any other people.

Bethesda needs to pick up the ball and FIX THIS. Just because i have my answer does not mean this topic should be pushed aside. I know Bethesda puts a lot of work into making their games specifically for their fans and all but come on... Game Breaking Bugs should be dealt with immediately.

I also had exactly the same problem when i tried using that claw, wasnt funny in the slightest. However i did manage to get passed it after reloading the save from outside the dungeon.

It was moved to the cheats/spoilers because you guys are tossing main quest spoilers around.

As for how they could have let it slip past them, that is easy. They never encountered the bug. You cant fix what you dont know has problems. I never encountered this issue, and many others haven't either. So don't get all pissed saying "How could they have missed this" when its possible that they never encountered it at all.

There is only so much testing they can do in house. We are talking about a game that has enough content for 250+ hours in a single play through. Multiply that by 4 play throughs and you have a good 1000 hours of play time. There are only so many bugs they can reasonablly encounter for the hand full of testers. Then, the game gets released to the public, they think its as bug free as possible, and here we have MILLIONS of people playing the game for 250+ hours. Bugs WILL be found the Bethesda testers would have had to spend months or years playing just to find. And I am in no way saying Bethesda is using us as testers, because they most surly are not. This is why Mincrosoft releases testing versions of their latest OS. So they can get that feedback from the millions of people who will test it. Its just the nature of the situation.

Have you seen how many have encountered this? Yahoo answers is flooded with this particular bug asking for a way around this, Youtube is full of videos explaining how the game has trapped them in skuldafn. I honestly doubt they have not encounted this issue.

Are you aware of what 'Game Breaking' means? it means it breaks the game. Not being able to open a single door is not game breaking because you can still play the game. If you were trapped in the room because of the door not opening then that would be a game breaking bug

I haven't encountered it, so yes, I honestly believe it is possible they never encountered this issue.

Im not saying there is no issue though. I am simply saying that it is possible they never encountered 90% of the bugs people claim are "glaringly obvious". I played through the game just fine. A few crashes here and there, but no game bugs to speak of.

The OP mentioned the inability to leave the designated questing area until the quest was finished. This means he could not ever leave the game cell he was currently in.

This is game breaking by your exact definition.

I just wanted to add that I had the same problem with the glass claw puzzle door in Forelhost - had tried loading earlier saves, backtracking, leaving and re-entering the dungeon, waiting etc but the correct combination would never open the door. Tried Overbleed's solution and the door opened first time - thanks very much.

Had something similar happen to another puzzle door once.
Best solution is to load a previous save, there should be a few autosaves not too far back in your progress.
Loading such a previous save should solve the door problem.

Edit: and if you don't have a recent save file, that will teach you to do so more :D

Good to know, his solution might actually be the most effective if it has really worked the first time for the three of us so far.

And yeh, this has definitely reminded me to save before i enter any type of dungeon heh.

I ran into this exact same bug. Someone posted a YouTube video a few posts up, and that technique actually worked for me. It took some doing, but it worked. Just keep spamming the A button on the rings until it works. I finally put in the correct door code after spamming the rings for a while, and it popped right open. It's the only thing that's worked for me.
