Did Beth drop the ball on Shor's Mine quest?

Spoiler
C'mon we should have been allowed to figure out mystery of red mist and why spiders came from nowhere. Any idea why, absurd and crazy ones allowed.

Red Belly Mine, where does the red mist come from?

Like almost all quests: ''Hey, kill the things for me, grab my money and go away, thank you, unknown.''

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics. General topics about the the game include but are not limited to races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, character builds, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. This also includes console commands, and character build exploits.

I will move this now.

Another example of poor RPG design, really.

I actually do have a question about this.

Did the quest. Killed the spiders. Got my reward.

I go back to the town a few days later...and the mine is full of spiders. I walk in, and almost everyone whom was outside dies by the hand's of the spiders. And I got no explanation as to any of this.

Would this be a bug <.< or was it intended to have the spiders come back without any reason?

Same. I went in the mine and the spiders were back. I managed to kill them all without anyone dying though. But they appear to respawn and there is nothing you can do about it.

There is an orc stronghold near there with the same problem. It has a quest with a giant, but if you come back later the giant will respawn and slaughter everyone.

Bethesda just forgot to tag these creatures not to reappear after the quest is over.

It's an ebony mine; the red mist is probably the result of the oxidation of the ore. What else could it be?

The alchemist woman in Riften asks you to pick up a strange mineral that was found in the Shor's Stone mine for study. There is something unusual in there even though its never explained what exactly it is.

Mmm... maybe the return of the spiders is not a bug and indicate that there's something we should have found but we all have overlooked then? And if there is nothing to be found for the time being maybe there will be a continuation in a future extension?

This is a problem with ALL of these quests.
-Kill Nimhue the poisoned one (giant frostbite spider) for Calcelmo, it respawns.
-Clear the Forsworn out of a mine. The miners do go back to working there, but since the Forsworn respawn, die the next time youre in the area.

Etcetera etcetera.

Any generic enemy will respawn.

What else could it be?

Well, it could be an residue from a daedra or a dragon reentering the world.

Could be fumes indicating Falmor wizards are preparing spells for .... (insert any number of things)

Could be the return of the dwarves.

Could be poisoning from a Thalmor plot.

Could be magic residue from an ancient spell re-lingering in this time... connected to the walking dead.

Could be magic used to make things bigger... giant spiders, giants, skeevers... maybe they were all result of spells gone bad.

My point is... that they could have had lots of fun with the red mist, but maybe they ran out of time or did up a story that changed canon and chopped it at the last minute. It is a VERY short "dungeon" and I wonder if there was another whole dungeon planned there that got the axe.

In fact, it's a quest that repeats itself. I did it yesterday; went to the mine, spiders were back, killed them all, went to see the blacksmith, told him I killed the spiders and got the reward, again. 1000 coins, not bad!

I'm exploring the CK right now about and that's exactly what I thought, the "run once" box is not clicked. Open the CK, in "Character" select "Quest", open "Truth Ore Consequences" check the "Run once" box, save and do the esp for yourselves. ;)

Kolskegr mine has also its "Run once" box not checked. Could anyone post a list of the quest that repeats themselves and shouldn't here so that I could patch up a mod? Thank you. :)

The quest for Captain Wayfinder in Dawnstar to collect the refined frost salts also repeats.
Also the one where the jarl of Winterhold asks you to fetch his ancestral helm.
The Legend of Red Eagle book retriggers the Red Eagle sword quest when you read it a second time.

I think there are others, but those are three I remember.

Soljund's Sinkhole also respawns the enemies inside, even after the quest is over. I don't know if the quest is repeatable, but if you go inside once the respawn has occurred there is a big chance the miners will die.

What I do for these mines where the bad guys respawn is I go in when the miners are off duty, sleeping in the safety of their homes. That way I can save them from death AND have my share of ores. Soljund's Sinkhole is particularly important if you want to mine your own Moonstone...

Yea, I also was wondering if there's more to that Red Belly Mine. I even turned clipping off and went through the webbing that's accumulated under the ceiling. I thought there might be a cave where the spider infestation starts, but nope, there's nothing there! Just the cave ceiling.

I usually just clear out the spiders and then never set foot into the mine again, so that I don't accidentally kill the "towns folk" via re-spawning spiders.

Why does Nimeh and those spiders respawn? Yea, that IS pretty stupid!

Thank you; I'll see what I can do, but... it would be so great that you gave me the exact names of the quests so that I don't have to do some searching... ;) Thank you.

As for the legend of Red Eagle, it never repeated for me. I read some of these stories on the forum, so after finishing it once, I re-opened the book and nothing happened.

Yeah, I hate the respawning in quests like the mine in Shor's stone.
The worst case of respawning is the quest where you have to clear a fort (can't remember the name) so the owner and his bodyguards, who were sitting outside at a campfire, can move back in.
So I give the guy his castle back and a few ingame months later I return and the owner is sitting outside at the campfire again while bandits overrun the fort again.
That makes the entire quest pointless

According to UESP, the name of the quest is Soljund's Sinkhole (ID given is FreeformSoljundsSinkholeA).

I would be very interested in this mod as well.

So that makes :
  • Truth Ore Consequences
  • Nimhe, the Poisoned One
  • Soljund's Sinkhole
  • Rebel's Cairn (Red Eagle sword)
  • Dungeon Delving
  • Salty Sea-Dogs
  • Kolskeggr Mine
Any other vermin infested mines or places where human live or work that could have the same problem, or quests that unduly repeat themselves, before I delve myself into trying to do something? ;)

As I recall, it's an iron mine, at least that's what the blacksmith says. However, there's a quest from the alchemists in Riften to examine a curious piece of ore from that mine, which he gives to you. It's quicksilver, so that mist is probably mercury vapor!
