So Did the Dawnguard Trailer Worry Anyone Else?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:23 am

I suppose "worry" is to strong a word. Just saw the trailer and had to laugh at myself. The whole time I was looking for new resources to use, updates to the engine that might be there or conflicts that might arise with what I'm already doing.

For instance, http://youtu.be/3PjBSicSVqI?t=12s I notice that an Actor walks up to a balcony with an Elder Scroll on its back. I immediately wondered... what Biped Object slot is that in? Will it conflict with what the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1344290-body-part-ids-for-unused-biped-nodes-consensus/? Will it hide the quiver from equipped arrows? *lol*

Overall I'm sure it will be fun, both from a player perspective and modder. Maybe they'll keep trickling out parts to PCs while the whole things goes to the 360 first. They're adding mounted combat in 1.6. Maybe crossbows in 1.7?

I wasn't modding when xpacs have been released for previous titles. Did things like Tribunal or Shivering Isles cause a lot of chaos for modders back then? Was the CK updated simultaneously? Hoping we don't wait months like we did with the Skyrim release.

Hopefully DLC wont become essential for modding and mod users by introducing new functions that require it, like Morrowind expansions did

Crossbows are coming in Dawnguard, but most of us realized that when 1.6 hit beta. There's also a scene in the trailer where someone is firing a crossbow. We won't need to wait on 1.7 unless 1.7 hits before the DLC.

For Oblivion, SI didn't cause a lot of disruption because 99% of that content was isolated, although back then, Bethesda simply dumped it all into Oblivion.esm. So it had some slight residual effect for a few things and not all the SI-only content was clearly labeled. The CS did get updated for that because of new functions SI introduced.

I know what you mean, (chuckle)--I was watching the trailer with one eye as a player and one eye as a modder.

Skyrim on the whole has been rife with this. Several of the in-game questlines feel like they're just begging for expansion, more so than in Oblivion, but there's the question of did Bethesda create those open-endings to leave room for official expansions, or should modders rush in? Then there is the cut content you find when you browse the game files in the CK--same question of whether Bethesda will ever finish off some of those quests in patches, or if we should. Then there was the Game Jam video, which introduced a whole host of game elements that Bethesda might or might not add. So this trailer just continues that.

(Personally, I was breathing double sighs of relief--it looks like a pretty decent DLC, and there weren't obvious overlaps with anything I've been working on. So that was nice.)

My Prevision was true on guessing that Dawn guard Had something to do with the Vampire lord and some people that fight in the twilight hours ...

anyway I did notice something really cool ...

a new dragon that gets into water making a big pufff ... is that a new dragon ?

Crossbows are ok but what I am a bit disappointed is not have seen any snowprince , any goblin any spear , any vervet surface , any seasonal foliage , and the graphics look quite bland ... not really top , dunno why perhaps just an impression , I love the new castle meshes tough look massive ....

I too was looking for new resources :)
The castle looked really interesting, hope it's built up by smaller parts and not just one big chunk.

mounted combat was on there. seemd to be some itenresting aniamtion killing a frosty looking creature. perhaps these will be applied to giants too.

Tehre is a whole laod of potentials changes being made behind the scenes that could mess us up: new lists, cahnging categories of spells/ effects.. or adding new game dynamics that we will ahve to account for in our script checks.

Interesting times!

I saw some lightning, within the trailer, but I'm not scared! I only started my mod, because there was something missing, from my own experience of the game.
I really enjoy doing my lightning mod, and I still work on it, but If they fix it within the Game, I think it would look better.
Love SkyRim and I Love the CK, can't wait for the DLC.
