Differences in characters

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:19 pm

Okay this might be a dumb question (probably is)

I know you can change class mid mission.
I know you are not forced to a faction per character
I know body types cannot be changed mid mission.

So my questions are.

1. Is your body type picked at character creation? I am assuming yes and have seen comments about it but must have missed anything official.
2. If that is the case... what is the point of having up to 10 or 12 characters whatever the number is? just for more options or did I miss something?

From the sound of it... technically everyone will have a minimum of 3 characters 1 for each body type.

It's for when they add 4-player split-screen to the game, and since this game sells itself on having good customization, it wants to allow every one of those four players to have three unique players of each body type. 3x4 = 12. Fact.

You can't take every ability in the game, different characters let you try out different ability combinations.

First off ty to the others that posted, but I am curious about this one.

So, 1 character could never get all the skills "unlocked"

Essencially when you buy the skill as you level up you are buying a permanant "unlock" for that character? So another character would need to buy the same skill as they level up in order to have said skill?
So even though you CAN change classes mid mission (at CPs) its actually better to have a character focus on a class so they can unlock as many of the abilities as they can, this sound correct?

No. You change it whenever you want, but only before a match. You have to unlock bodytypes in order to use them.

You start off with Medium, unlock Heavy at level 5, and unlock Light at level 7. It's more than likely once you unlock them, you never have to unlock them again.

Their aren't 20 class specific abilities for a single class.

While we're on the subject of Character customization;
A guy in a video was talking about how he had unlocked the Shield outfit and showed it off to his friends. He said he actually wanted to play as an Operative, so he'll "Instead pick out a slimmer set of clothing". My question is would the clothes make a difference. Sure he'd be less of a target maybe...
But could he not be a bulky, not so slender operative sneaking around the map?

Also, are we just stuck with Primary and Secondary color sets for our clothing, or can I have a green hat, blue shirt, red pants, and yellow shoes? (Hypothetical, of course! Otherwise I'd look ridiculous...)
Thanks!

Can you change your character in mid game. Curious because if you have 50 skills 4 class trees and a universal tree, doesnt that mean most people will specialize in a certain class and all the universal skills therefore gimping the other class choices for that round with that character?

Curious how this plays out. If i have 2 maxed out characters and i'm on my medic one, and i have another character who specializes in engineer, i would never choose engineer class with my medic character if i knew i had a character with all the fixings.

Nope, you can't change character mid-match - only class or weapon. So whatever skills you bought, those are the skills you're stuck with for matches. Though I'm fairly sure each class starts out with the basics, and the skills only serve to add extra sheen & glitter to those foundations. So if you swap to Engineer but you don't have any 'neer skills, you'll still be able to get the job done - just not to the degree of effectiveness as somebody specialized in it, obviously.

thats what i was afraid of actually. Seems like I will feel locked into a class regardless if I have the ability to change or not then.

I guess body type is permanent to that character. Between missions, in case you want to change your body type, you are able to switch to another character you created with a different body type.

Well tbh, the skills offer very specialist buffs. Nothing necessary to finish a game, just stuff to make it more fun or easier. If you're entirely spec'd for Medic, but you have no Assault players and a gate needs to be blown up, you can still swap to Assault and blow it up yourself.

But yeah, everybody will probably stick to their own classes for the bulk of the game.
