Different things you've noticed after updates

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:43 am

I've been wondering if there are things you're noticing that are different since 1.4 and 1.5.

-I've noticed burial urns are bigger
-Water has not improved but become murky
-when on the load screen with pictures, there are new pictures. I've noticed a steel helmet with black fur on top.
-I picked up a dagger today called Bloodthorne and have never seen it in 3 playthroughs.
-Forsworn armor looks different.
-Killcams are okay

The only things I noticed were the water (not murky but clearer, beautiful in fact) and the kill cams.

I also finally discovered that you can rotate the objects on the loading screens after about 160 hours of play (nothing to do with the updates I think, but rather I'm just a bit slow at finding these things).

I believe I got Bloodthorn before 1.5..... I would dual-wield that with Mehrune's, it was crazy!

I've noticed music plays now while I'm doing alchemy, that's great.
I've also noticed sometimes the music goes away while I'm roaming out in the world, and I hear nature, which is also fantastic (I do love the soundtrack tho).
I think the murkiness of the water (in distance), while being clear right in front of you or beneath you, is much more realistic....I live on a lake and that's the way it is when I swim.
I've noticed new random dialog here and there, can't remember specifics right now.

I've noticed a TON of additional "overheard" dialogue among NPCs all over the place. Someone suggested in another thread that it was supposed to be there all along, but there was some glitch that would shut it down or block it and after the last patch it was all back again. I don't know if it was un-glitched or added but I am finding out a lot more about the lives of Skyrim's residents than I ever thought possible.

I'm jealous, I think whatever was fixed in your game is still f'ed in mine. NPCs in Whiterun especially seem to have 1-2 lines of dialogue apiece.

Yeah, I'm noticing that it's way past the same NPCs repeating the same lines over and over again directly to/at me when I pass by. They are having regular convos with each other that have nothing to do with me, and I'm just eavesdropping if I'm in the area. It's actually quite fascinating and makes the cities in particular seem much more alive. Plus a nice treat to have after multiple playthroughs when you think there's not a single word of dialogue you haven't already heard at least a million times.

I take it you mean the greek looking crested helm that was already in the game. The water should look great, it may be glitched for you.

Yeah, I throw the Volsung on and swim away. It just seems murkier to me.

When you look at it in your inventory, It is more close up or zoomed in to show more detail.

I meant in real life, The water in the game is murkier just like real lakes and rivers in the real world.

I haven't played Skyrim since 1.5 (rather spend more time with my friends, I'm senior in high school, and I won't see them again, so yeah.) However, right after the 1.4 patch, a dragon attacked in the city of Whiterun. Ive never noticed a dragon attacking in a major city (physically inside the city, not near the walls) , they attack in small cities a lot, they spawn very often over winterhold, but the 5 najor cities seem to be safe havens. Anyway, the dragon took down 1 innocent bystander before the guards and I took it down. However, because this was right after patch 1.4, I wondered if dragons could now spawn in cities. However, because it only happened once and because Ive never heard anyone talking about it, I assume it was just a bug.

I had a dragon attack inside Riften. It landed and died on the circular walkway around the central marketplace. That was quite a while ago and I'm pretty sure it predated the 1.4 patch. But I've never seen any other attack inside a walled city. I've never even seen them attack close to Markarth or Solitude at all, the closest was one right near the Haafingar Stormcloak camp. Windhelm and Riften I get them at the stables sometimes, Whiterun not even that close but several on the roads and tundra within shouting (not Shouting, lol) distance of the city walls.

IIRC I had fast traveled to Riften when that one attack happened and for some reason had been doing more carriage rides than usual beforehand. Dragon attacks seem to happen more frequently at the point of arrival after a lot fast traveling or other "time lapse" stuff like the carriages. I don't ever fast travel to the inside of a city any more for that reason, the stables are the closest I'll get. I don't fast travel much anyway but I'm still not taking any chances.

-Killcams are okay
- Urns do seem a bit bigger. owo
- That was part of the update. Water is more realistic, and it actually textures properly.
- Some new pictures are added when you finish certain quests and stuff, so there's that.
- Bloodthorn has been in since vanilla, I got it on all my characters and I've been playing since release. But I see where you're coming from, because there's a lot of things in Skyrim that I only just notice/realize after a few playthroughs.
After about 400 hours of play time I have never seen a dragon inside a walled city.
I didn't think that was something that was supposed to happen either, but I saw it on my current character when she was at maybe level 25 or so. That is the only dragon I've seen inside city walls in 700+ hours.

I also have that impression. Not directly at your character, but between npcs. Before 1.5, I'd never heard the conversation from one of the Kajiits in the caravan craving for her skooma to another Khajiit. By now, I'm kinda sick of hearing it. There've been a few other instances imo. But maybe it's just me and my imagination.

Besides more npc to npc conversation i also noticed a huge drop in the supply of steel ingots , before the patch all blacksmiths had a ample supply of steel ingots, now there are moments none of them have any steel ingots and if they have maybe 3 to 5 ingots
Also but this probably was in the pre patch game , ever noticed that when you finally are able to craft a certain armor all the sudden none of the blacksmiths have any ingots of the sort you need for sale anymore

Some dialogues were not happening before. For example, the dragon of Kynesgrove mocking the player and Delphine didn't happen in 1.1

Speaking of Delphine, she now wears a cowl while she works undercover for Whiterun Jarl's mage.

I've noticed that my character has almost drowned six times due to looking at the bottom of various lakes while swimming...

I've noticed this too. I think this is due to the character leveling up and more different types of ingots becoming available for sale at blacksmith shops. For example, Refined Malachite becomes available for sale at level 18, and Ebony Ingots at level 27.

They've also half-nerfed the Smithing skill. Used to be that your character could survive by being Tamriel's foremost supplier of Iron Daggers and Leather Bracers. Now that 1.5 is out, they toned down Smithing and brought it even with the rates for the other Skills as far as increasing the Skill.

So now I'm the foremost supplier of Leather Armor... and that'll level your Smithing quick.

Plus, every time I kill a Bandit I think; "I made that armor. See the 'Made in Whiterun' sticker inside the collar?". But then I think about how easily I killed said Bandit, and figured that I probably could have done a better job.

edit = atrocious, early morning spelling errors...

I agree, I'm level 31 on my third character and Steel Ingots have all but disappeared. Ebony is not an option for me to buy yet because I have not chosen it on the smithing perk tree yet. If you don't have it selected in your tree, then you won't see it for sale. I also agree with smithing being nerfed as you say because it is taking longer to abuse it via iron daggers. I will try the leather bracers!
