Different voice actors with same dialogue.

I require some enlightenment. Why is it that different voice actors have exactly the same dialogue? Referring to shopkeepers mostly. For example, "Trinkets, odds and ends, that sort of thing" I've heard that from the old woman in whiterun and every general store, and some others stores i forgot what. Even though each of them had different voice actors. I mean, if there are already different voice actors would it be that hard to get each actor to say something different? Even something like "welcome to the general goods store" would probably be a fresh experience from the same old lines.

They bothered to get more voice actors this time, but gave them the same lines? For the lack of a better example, its like you baked a cake and refuse to take it out of the oven. :spotted owl:

Why they even bothered to make all of the dialogue voiced?

I've wondered that as well. They have to record a shopkeeper dialog for each voice actor who voices a shopkeeper, how hard could it have been to write a quick, unique sentence for them? Seems kind of lazy.

Do you really have to ask?

It makes perfect sense they say the same. You should complain about the fact they simply don't have enough dialogue lines recorded from each, so they wouldn't sound repetitive in the first place

What possible purpose does it serve to record 4 different people saying "Some may call this junk, but I call them treasures."

It would have taken very minimal effort to write a different line that conveys a similar meaning. It's not like it saves on disc space or anything.. a sound file is a sound file.

I used to be an adventurer like you but then... *I forgot how it went but something with an arrow*
Depth isn't much unless you have a lot of fluff in your head

Those 70 something voice actors Bethesda is bragging about is mostly from singing the main theme song.

The fact that you can't reply to that with "Treaures... well are you eccentric you loopy [censored]" is the biggest disappointment I have with the game.

I suppose it gave the devs a bit of freedom on the final store types. "I sell fruit and veg" might seem strange if they changed it to an armorer at the last minute. Also it saved ink printing out different scripts for the lesser actors.

But a blacksmith saying trinkets odds and ends would seem funny :celebration:

But the lack in variety of dialogues really baffles me.

I asked about this for the fan Q&A they did before Skyrim released. They didn't answer my question though.

It's like how in Oblivion, no matter which race you were fighting, all of them had the same lines for you, like "This is the part where you fall down and bleed to death!" Kind of a pet peeve of mine, because it seems like wasted disk space that could have been used for a unique line of dialogue.

Are you honestly trying to defend Bethesda on this point? Every damn general goods seller says the same exact set of three of four lines. It's stupid and lezy on Beth's part.

I would be lying if I said I wouldn't want more. I just don't get bothered by it.
