Difficulty slider suggestion

For the next time.

I like how the slider function works with preset levels but....

Give me one for damage dealt and damage taken. Please.

I don't do the smith/enchant/alchemy junk. Too time consuming and annoys the crab out of me.

If I turn the difficulty up to Master and don't have OP gear right at the start, the damage reduction essentially makes it take forever to kill stuff. It reminds me of marksmanship in Oblivion. You know, where I had to throw about two dozen arrows into something before it fell over? I'd personally like to keep the Adept damage done and take the Master damage taken.

I shouldn't have to min/max to play on a higher difficulty setting. But that's just me.

Yes, you'll get pansies that set damage taken to next to nothing and damage done to top end so they one shot everything by looking at it, but it'd be nice for those of us that don't like Godmode or don't want to have to spend time min/maxing.

Yes, for the love of god yes.

I'm sure everyone would like a "realism" option where they set enemy damage taken to maxed but also set player damage taken to the max.

Yes, also, make it a full slider instead of these presets that they have. In oblivion, I loved turning it all the way up so I got killed in one hit. Then, I loved turning it all the way down to activate god mode

Damage taken and dealt is based on difficulty level.

Novice x2 dealt x.5 taken
Apprentice x1.5 dealt x.75 taken
Adept x1 dealt x1 taken
Expert x.75 dealt x1.5 taken
Master x.5 dealt x2 taken

I want x2 taken and x1 dealt. Unless you're min/maxing to a degree with upgraded weapons or fortify enchants, some creatures take FOREVER to kill as a squishy class(I wear light armor and do not put perks in armor trees so I might as well be wearing mage robes at this point) that has a very high chance of getting my butt handed to me in an overly long fight.

I like having the chance of that troll one shotting me if I'm not careful. I don't like the idea of the fight taking twice as long to finish because my weapon damage went through the floor unless I can enchant and upgrade my gear.

The difficulty level you choose affects the damage you deal and receive. Difficulty Player Damage Dealt Player Damage Taken Novice x2 x0.5 Apprentice x1.5 x0.75 Adept x1 x1 Expert x0.75 x1.5 Master x0.5 x2

I know, but with the slider, at the middle you would do 1 damage and take 1 damage, but for every tick you moved the slider left, you would do 1+.1x damage, and take 1/(1+.1x) damage, there were fifty ticks left of the middle, so that means the maximum was 6 damage dealt and 1/6 damage taken, and the complete opposite if you moved the slider to the right.

I wish that was back, and I also wish they had separate sliders for damage dealt and damage received. I like the idea of everything dying in one hit. That would be a great playstyle for any thief character, because you are forced to stay in the shadows and deal with your opponents silently

You can do that with the presets as it is.

If you're not one shotting stuff on Novice you're doing it wrong. That slider you're mentioning, the one they had in Oblivion was like that. They used the same multiplication type deal that Skyrim is using, but instead of set intervals you could do the full range, like x.1.1 dealt and x1.1 taken instead of 1 and 1.

The current slider just fixes 5 values along that line.

I want a split between the damage I deal and the damage I take. I want the risk of being one shot without having to pump the crap out of my gear to avoid dumping 300 arrows into that giant to kill it because my damage output completely svcks.

You don't need those tiny little increments like that though. That was the problem with it and that was why they changed it.

On novice, I can use a rusty iron dagger and damn near one shot everything naked. :/

Yeah, I know, but it's not as extreme. I just found that the difficulty on the highest difficultly in Oblivion to be ungodly difficult, and unable to do without some serious cheats, Skyrim's master setting is difficult, but still manageable. I mean, master is 10 clicks to the right and novice is 10 clicks to the left, as opposed to a maximum of 50.

Also, no one puts the slider on a scientific scale, you just put a rough estimate.

However, I do agree with you that they need separate scales though. I only play on the default on both games because it is a compromise between the bullet sponge effects of my enemies and the bullet sponge effect of me.

Pretty much.

I don't do outrageous enchanting. I don't min/max alchemy, most of my characters don't have smithing. It'd be really nice to actually be able to play the game without having to use any of the above without feeling like my enemy is a damage sponge when I jack up the settings :/
