I unwittingly stumbled upon the Thalmor Embassy before I knew what it was. Outside the embassy I ran into 3 high elves. They got a little mouthy, I didn't cotton to it much, and they ended up dead. Well at this point several characters come running out of the embassy walls and by the time it was all said and done everyone but me on that mountain was taking a dirt nap.

I did not realize at the time that these characters would play so heavily into the main quest. I now cannot go to the party I'm supposed to go to because the people who would be holding the party are dead. Do I have any recourse or is my game shot? I'd hate it if my game was shot because I'm almost level 60 and I have a lot of time in the game.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Not sure what you mean with cannot go to the party - do you not even get an invite? What about that dude in the Winking Skeever? Do you meet up with him? The point is to get information from what I remember which is in a building there. As long as the quest begins, you may be able to just get the info from the dungeon area? Maybe.

I made the same mistake with other things, basically explored too much which affected quests.

So the guards aren't respawning outside or you killed a named character? also how long before the quest started did you do it? If you did this recently you could load a save or wait 3 days

Have you tried? I have this quest in my log, but I've seen on a website that's it's categorized into "Act II" so I haven't done it, yet. On other quests, however, I've "Cleared" some of the dungeons, but the mobs respawn when a quest sends me to them. :\
