Disappointed in New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:47 am

Just got New Vegas over the weekend and I've done most of the southern part of the map so far. I'm extremely disappointed in this game as compared to Fallout 3. The quests are pretty lame, the voice acting is pretty lame and the guns I've come across so far are pretty lame. I don't understand the crafting at all or the Caravan card game. Thought I was converting energy cells to mfc and ended up getting some energy cell recharge, whatever the heck that is. The manual does not explain these things either. I've played a lot of RPG's with crafting so I do understand it but this crap with hulls, cases, powder, lead - geez, all this for some bullets? Think I'll just go to the general store and trade in what I don't need and buy what I do! I miss having my own home in Megaton and all the great quests I got from whatshername at Craterside Supply. I found a cute dinosaur toy and I have nowhere to put it!! Most of the time you're just stumbling around in the desert coming across deserted homesteads and stuff like that. No mysterious recordings or notes appear at all like they did in Fallout 3. Where's all the outlaws and raiders?? I've only come across one group of Caesar's Legion in Nipton and two groups of Powder Gangers besides the ones at the prison and a couple of Viper Gang members - and that's it! Big whoop! When the Legion left Nipton, I followed, walked right into their camp and freed the slaves and they didn't fire a shot. And this was after I helped some merchant caravan fight against the Legion. What's up with that??? A game bug?

I miss traipsing around in subway tunnels and caves finding things - are there any underground sites to look forward to later?? Also, it seems like most things I may find in towns, especially, are stealing, and the stuff in the desert is crap.

I also want my Combat Shotgun and my Chinese Assault Rifle back!!!! So far all I've found are Simple Shotgun, a few pistols, 9 mm automatic which svcks, some other bolt action Varmint rifle which is not fast at all, and a few laser pistols and one Plasma Rifle. Hope there are better weapons ahead but I'm getting bored already.

In New Vegas, you're just kind of thrown into the lame story with no real explanation of how to do stuff. I feel sorry for the people who never played Fallout 3 and are starting with this. Whatshername Moira at Craterside Supply seemed to at least explain food, robot parts, and stuff like that when you were sent on your quests. The only thing I've been trained on so far is how to make a lame health potion at a campfire. Guess what, I've only run across one campfire in all my travels so far!! And I didn't feel like traipsing all over the desert to find the ingredients. Another quick trip to the store, I guess.

The guy you play is supposed to be a courier from New Vegas, but he doesn't seem to know any of the towns in the area??? Doesn't make sense. Doesn't sound like an experienced courier to me - Don't hire this guy - he doesn't know where he's going!

I also don't get why the food works very sloooowly. I want to pop a few Nuka colas and see my health zoom up, not have to wait friggin' 10 seconds.

The radio songs are horrible - I loved the old forties and fifties songs of Fallout 3. Johnny Guitar is driving me crazy and sounds like a death dirge!! The supermutant program on one station is just plain annoying. And that other guy on New Vegas radio is absolutely a freak. He sounds like a dirty old man trying to be sixy or something and sounds like that head guy with the weird blue eyes in Mass Effect 2 - did Martin Sheen do this voice too? Just because you used to be a good actor when you were young doesn't mean you have a good voice now, people!! Yuk!! He says we, the listeners, are his wife??? Too weird.

Too bad Three Dog doesn't reach out west and the Rockopolis guy and Argyle aren't syndicated. The monsters & bad guys you encounter are few and far between as well but it seems once you do encounter them they are a gang of twenty all coming at you at the same time. And with the lousy weapons I have I keep getting killed. Not many chances to sneak up on people and take them out one at a time. My V.A.T.S doesn't always seem to work well either. Another bug.

There were so many cool things to discover in Fallout 3 - out in the wilderness and in the Capitol wasteland. New Vegas hardly has anything - just lots of desert. The other thing I don't get is I'm playing a good guy but every town or camp I come to it seems like I'm stealing from someone - doesn't matter who - Powder Gangers, Legion, etc. Doesn't make sense. I should be able to steal from my enemies without a penalty.

I was really looking forward to this game as Fallout 3 was so great and I had played all the add-ons as well. It's like Bethesda didn't want to put the money into it or something, which I don't understand at all seeing how popular Fallout 3 was. It's like a slimmed down version - no underground stuff, no cool buildings to explore - seemed like it took almost an hour to get through some office buildings and hotels in Fallout 3. Now the biggest building I've been in so far was the Town Hill in Nipton. Yee ha! Three floors of practically nothing with a few bad guys and Legion wolves..

I can't understand people on this Forum saying they think New Vegas is better. I just don't get it. What's better? The story isn't better, the amount of things you get to explore isn't better, the quests aren't better, the armor and guns aren't better? Does it get better once you reach New Vegas? I sure hope so. I don't like one change Bethesda has made to this game, either to the guns, crafting, storyline or the armor - did I mention the armor?? I've been wearing the same merc outfit since I started practically. Haven't found anything better yet. Do you hear me Bethesda??? If it ain't broke - don't fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to see Fallout 3 but set in a different location. Same stuff and same way of doing things.

Next game can we go back to a city - New York, Chicago, LA, where there is more stuff to do - anywhere but a boring ass desert! I've been to the Mojave Desert and I haven't seen one gila monster or rattlesnake either!! Just a bunch of stupid geckos and a few giant ants! And only two ghouls. This is not a real desert!!

This blurb was on the Fallout 3 site :Bethesda Softworks?, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that its highly anticipated title, Fallout?: New Vegas?, has enjoyed record sales at launch, reflecting the huge consumer demand for the game (Yes, we all wanted Fallout 3 in the desert! and after playing it most consumers are extremely disappointed Bethesda!!!!!!) Noticed it didn't get as high of ratings as Fallout 3 or Oblivion. Only got 3 stars on Amazon. What a letdown!!! Luckily I got it on sale and didn't have to pay full price.

Thanks for letting me rant! Think I'll go back to Fallout 3.

I'm right there with you.

I'm pretty much the exact opposite of everything he just said. Also you should have just posted in one other the like 5 other threads like this. XD

Two things:

1. It's called opinion.
2. Bethesda didn't develop New Vegas.

They should just make a subforum for peoples unfounded complaints.

This should've been hammered to Betheads already when they acquired the licence for Fallout in 2004 (was it 2004?).

Never played any of the other Fallouts, had no problem. *shrug*

Think I'll go back to Fallout 3.

Sounds like that would be best for you. :)

Sorry to hear that you're not entirely happy with Fallout New Vegas. However, I fail to see why you had to make a new topic when you could have posted this in one of the already available threads.

So I'm going to go ahead and close this one; enjoy Fallout 3 ;)
