first, I registered to voice my utter frustration with what could have been the best game ever...

I remember fallout 3 goty and all the problems I had with the game, both on PS3 and PC....
more so on PS3, in fact I no longer bother trying to play fallout 3 goty on my PS3 because it'll just
crash constantly and that takes all the fun out of a potentially great game..
I went through an amazing process trying to get fallout 3 to work on my PS3...

first I bought the fallout 3 edition, just the game itself, used so I didn't pay a lot
for it.. it was 30 bucks... it crashed so much I finally decided to take it back and trade
it in for the fallout 3 goty which I heard was much better and didn't crash all the time like the original
game... they gave me 3 bucks credit for the game since "it is dead and no one's buying it anymore.."
lost 28 bucks there..

then I bought the goty edition for 40 bucks....
the goty edition was working fine until my save file grew to over 4000 kb... from that point on it crashes
constantly now... 68 bucks later - threw my hands up and gave up on the game and haven't played it since...

note, it works pretty well on my PC, (another 30 bucks) but still crashes more than a game should...
(my PC plays all my other games at max settings with no problems at all and no crashes... i5, 8 gigs of DDR3 ram, nvidia 9600..)


Now I see that fallout new vegas is out and I'm thinking, okay they certainly must have gotten
rid of the bugs of fallout 3 so this is a must have!

I bought the game the first day it was out for 60 bucks and installed it that day... in my excitement also bought the
PC version, another 50 bucks...

my PS3 fallout new vegas was working fine until my
save grew to over 4000 kb and now it lags and crashes constantly... WTF?

I now have about 200 bucks invested in just 2 games and they're both unplayable...
in a word... Unbelieveable!

unless they provide some patch or something to resolve these inexcusable
problems I will never go back to the game and will ignore future versions of it from here on out...

I never even installed the PC version of new vegas... cuz whats the point if it doesn't even work?
after reading these forums I am shocked at the problems everyone is having just trying to play it...
will wait and see if the PC version gets fixed, otherwise I will just trade it in for something else...

it's really sad too because I love the whole idea of this game, it is my favorite game of all the games I have, but
if it doesn't work what good is it..? this is a sad day since I hoped we would be getting a bug-free game and
all be able to enjoy it for a long time... man was I wrong...

there is already a patch out for the PC... so maybe try that... they are working on a patch for the consoles so patience is a must.

update on this situation as follows...

I just played new vegas on my PS3 for about 5 hours with no crashing...

one thing I noticed is when I loaded my save upon first entering the area
whenever I tried to walk, run, just move around at all the HDD indicator
light was flashing constantly and the game was stuttering pretty bad...

so I just stood there without moving until the HDD light stopped blinking...

then started walking slowly at first and it began blinking rapidly again,
so I stood still until it stopped again..

This went on for the first 20 to 30 minutes, and now when I move around
it blinks for a second or two, but not like it was when I first started tonight...

As I said, I just played for about 5 hours without a problem... hmmm

I think what's happening is it's trying to load multiple things all at once
and then it crashes as it cant' catch up fast enough... when your
character is running full speed from one area to the next, talking to
NPCs, fighting, etc., the game can't catch up.. I slowed down and
didn't have any crashes...

It played really smooth after the initial start tonight with lots of traveling,
battles with multiple monsters, completing quests, etc... the only
things is, it kinda ruins the intensity of the game when you have to
keep worrying if it is catching up yet and if not you have to stop
and stand still and wait until it does... good grief Charlie Brown!

just thought I'd toss this out there, for what it's worth.. and prolly not much... lol

Only problem I've had with my PS3 version is the stuttering of gameplay. It's not all that bad tbh, I can bear it. Also I've had 1 freeze....In an ncr tent near primm after I try'd to repair some NCR bandoleer armour that was in one of the footlockers. This freeze has happened to quite alot of people actually - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/NCR_Bandoleer_Armor.

Same here about not having problems. I'm about 8 hours in and the only thing I've noticed is the stuttering. I haven't had any freezes yet.

Good job posting your PC problems on the PS3 forum. You're dilluting our problems to voice your concerns. You realize there is a reasoning behind having separate forums for PC, 360, and PS3 right? This is to distinguish which system is at fault so they can fix it. Dilluting the PS3 forum with your PC problems is making it harder to separate the problems. Please post to your particular forums please. This is the PS3 forum, not the PC forum.

thanks to bros like you, i stayed clear off both games. i was really excited about NV but when i started reading posts like this one, i reconsidered buying that one too.
im not giving my money to lazy devs.

Im in the 20-25 hour range.. I had 1 crash and some noticeable stutters yesterday in my day off marathon. My PS3 was wheezing and i looked at my homes thermostat and it was 81 in the house and I saw the sun hitting the console actually. I shut off the PS3, turned ont he AC, and shut the shades. 30 mins later game ran fine and I had no issues the rest of the 7 hours I played.

I have noticed on the PS3 sometimes games that access the HD alot can tend to get hot and cause some overheating issues and taking a break allowing it to cool helps it.

I have seen complaints most on the game from PC people.. people who probably have no idea how to prep their PC to get a game to run on it properly.
