So I finally sat down to watch the CE Behind the Scenes DVD... and discovered that the DVD is just all the dev diary features... and trailers... and because it's a DVD and not a Blu-ray, that means it's lower resolution than the free 720p HD downloads I already have of everything on this disc

So that was a major disappointment to me.

The chips were a nice physical item, but as someone who likes but isn't a huge fan of replica items, they were never going to be the highlight of the set.

The All Roads graphic novel was a great addition to the set. And while Dark Horse is good, their interior artists don't really impress me lately, so the Geoff Darrow cover was far more interesting than anything inside the book. Bethesda should have had their concept artists paint the graphic novel. That would have been incredible. If anyone wants to talk about comics and graphic novels, boy, 20 years ago they were good. Now, with just a few exceptions, not so much.

Finally, the playing cards. Great idea from a "physical item" standpoint, poor idea from the standpoint of people like me who love, love, love concept art and design work from companies like Bethesda who have absolutely amazing concept, design, advertising, etc. artwork. To have this art on such a small item is just saddening.

I wish there was a Fallout artbook, in a nice, large oversized format (none of these mini artbooks like the Fallout 3 one), and it would cover both Fallout 3 and Fallout NV, and include everything such as concept art, advertising work, photos (of the dev team, and things like the Fallout cakes and lots of other fun stuff we've seen on BethBlog), renders of characters, locations, etc. from the game, promotional art, etc. etc.

The art that Bethesda has been including in the strategy guides has been really awesome, but it's just not presented in the best way it could be. As someone who buys a lot of art and making-of books, I'm sure there would be a pretty large demand for such a book as I've described - if done properly, the demand should at least be worth the cost.

I hope Bethesda will publish one, and make up for what was a disappointing CE.
