Discovery about boots of waterwalking

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:40 pm

While in Blackreach on one of my runs for Crimson Nirnroot to make potions with, I made a discovery about Ahzidal's boots of Waterwalking.

I found out that while walking on water you jump slightly higher and therefore slightly farther than you would on dry land.
Its not a whole lot, but enough to be noticable while standing still and straight up, as well as covering more distance when jumping straight forward.
I tested by finding a few landmarks to orientate myself on and jumping on water then doing the same jump back on land did not get me back to my starting point.

I thought it was interesting and thought I would share.

The water gives bounce, kind of like a waterbed........

Now, the question remains, is there somewhere you need to jump to while you are standing on the water?

Is it the water that does it, or are it the boots you think?
I was thinking this maybe something interesting for modders, like a fortify jumping enchantment.

I'm curious if the boots allow you to walk over lava in Aerthium Forge.

They are but you still take fire damage.
Although you can swim in that lava if your fire and magic resistances are high enough so I dont doubt its the same for walking on it.

I have yet to notice anything we needed waterwalking for, which was a bit of a disappointment, I have not even bothered to use them yet. Just walking on water for the fun of it is not that exciting for me, I am obviously not into nostalgia and am a bit jaded. One character will eventually use them as a faster way of looking for something hidden in the water around the island, she is currently still digging them up though.

Oh I love them and have them in my inventory always.
Not having waterwalk was one of those things that just didnt make sense to me and now I can just walk over lakes and rivers and I dont have to swim anymore.
Its also nice not to be bothered by slaugtherfish but still being able to kill them and standing on the water and fishing.

I want to train up Heavy armor b4 I carry it around, so I can get some protection.

Can you still submerge yourself like before? Just by looking down and moving forward until you go under completely. Normally you'd bob once or twice and then go under completely, and start swimming.
It'd be nice if you could. I wouldn't want to talk them on and off repeatedly if I saw something interesting under the water.
Also, there should be more underwater things... there aren't very many things of interest underwater.

You know, this is my first ES game and every single time I set foot in the water I always half-expect some giant sea monster to eat me. Besides, who the hell wants to swim in 60 pounds of armor? Better yet, who the hell can swim in 60 pounds of armor?

There is a boat if the shore if Solstheim that you either need WWing or to do a tricky climb up the oar on the side of the boat (gotta love vertical jump climbing) that from memory had a chest or potions in it. Not really important but impossible to jump out if water and into the boat so I guess in a way it's needed for that.

You can because you are Dragonborn and unique in the same way that you can fall/slide down a cliff and take minimal damage.

I remember that boat, mainly because the people supposed to belong to it hung around after they were freed talking about leaving, and there was no boat. The boat bothered to turn up for my second character though, so it made a bit more sense that the crew was standing around waiting. That character will be the one doing the water walking, so I will remember to jump in when I get up that way. I did try to zoom in with the bow thinking there would be something in there, but could not see anything. But thanks for reminding me. :)

Yeah those guys talk about leaving.
And then just stand on the shore forever.
Fail.
