Distant Gunfire Sound Fix

1.0

By Povuholo

Simplified summary of the bug/fix: When you're at a certain distance from an NPC firing a gun, you won't be able to hear it anymore. This is not very far away from the shooter so it sort of looks like someone muted the gun sound suddenly. Then, when you get a little further away, the sound suddenly gets louder again. How strange!

This mod uses a workaround to fix this bug, which is probably an engine bug, so gunfire should sound better in combat. A more detailed explanation can be found below.

This mod does nothing to the sounds themselves, so is compatible with all sound replacers. It's also compatible with all mods that alter guns.

(In)compatibility
===============

Currently (25 October 2010) incompatible with Louder Guns. Once Wrye Flash (Wrye Bash for NV) is updated it will be possible to merge both mods into the Bashed Patch (Flashed Patch?). Then they will be compatible.

The mod is compatible with all sound replacers however.

Detailed Explanation
=================

There are two types of gunshot sounds for many weapons, one Normal sound, and one Distant sound for when NPCs shoot from further away. The transition from Normal to Distant is bugged however. What you get is that at the transition between Normal and Distant, the gunshot sound goes from silent to pretty loud if you're walking away from the shooter, or from pretty loud to silent (and then slowly louder again) as you're walking closer to the shooter.

What is supposed to happen is that the Distant sound blends in while the Normal sound fades out, but what actually happens is that the Distant sound
does not start playing until the Normal sound is completely silent.

This mod prevents the distant sounds from playing at all, and instead increases the range at which the Normal gunshot sounds can be heard. This way the whole Normal/Distant sound blending bug is completely avoided, but you can still hear gunfire at large distances.

It would be nice of course if Obsidian fixed this bug in the future! :)

I'm going to have to try this out. It's annoying hearing a loud gunshot only to find out that there is no one near you.

Thanks

This bug was not fixed in the new patch. I'll make a short video so the problem is easier to understand, maybe the devs will notice it then.
