Doctor Mitchell

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:19 pm

Just a weird, quick question, as that other gender topic reminded me of this. I remember hearing in an interview that Doc Mitchell heals us and all, but it seemed to be worded funny. Now I can't find the video or remember exactly what he said.
Just need to know: Mitchell doesn't change the way you naturally look, does he? As in he doesn't perform a facial reconstruction or plastic surgery and create a whole new face for you (a face which you would choose the appearance of)? It sounded a bit like that in this certain interview.
It wouldn't really make sense as two bullets in the head wouldn't affect your face that much (would be cool if your character bore the scars of it though), so I doubt that he does, but I really don't want to walk around like a - dare I say it - Michael Jackson.

Building your face during the Mitchell sequence is just a way to let the player decide what the character looks like... Until then, you will not see the character. from a realism standpoint... consider the amount of damage done to the head and face when a wasteland doctor cracks the skull open to remove some bullets.

But 'building your face' sounds like you're constructing your face unnaturally. As in, I'll be walking around with a fake face. I really don't want that.
My question is are we simply 'deciding what we look like' or 'building a new face'?
They're too different things.

We decide what we look like, while story-wise Doc Mitchell repairs our face. In essence, building us a new face.

It's just a way to construct your character that fits into the storyline. Maybe not as seamlessly as in FO3, but that's one of those parts that we just kinda glaze over so we don't lose the immersion.

Damn, that's what I wasn't hoping for. I'll feel like a freak when I wander the wastes now.

Deciding what you look like. It could be exactly what you looked like before you got shot, if that pleases you, or an entirely new face if you want that.... But like I said, you won't have seen your face prior to the creation section, so it's up to you.

Ah, thanks. That's a lot better.

No, it's in the sense that Doc Mitchell fixes our face from the bullet wounds. (I don't think he'd leave them there, so of course he'd have to do some surgery to take them out.) But it's nothing more than that, it's like the Gene-Projector in FO3, where you get to choose your characters look. I believe the surgery will be done before you get to choose your characters face, etc.

It has been said in a few interviews that he is asking you if this is what you looked like and that is where you choose you features.

Yep he says something along the lines of "I hope I put you back the way you remember" or something like that. He never seen our character before and he fixed us up as best he could and thats when the mirror is held up which allows us to alter our look if we choose to.

How would you prefer they did the Character Creation? At least they're giving us a means of seeing how it's being done, rather than just doing what so many others do and just begin with a Create Your Character screen. I find the "plastic surgery" bit we're being fed a lot more original and entertaining. I think you're looking too deep in too little.

I agree with what others said, it's original and I like it. I don't think it's plastic surgery though. It's more like he patched you up and joked about it. So I think your just over anolyzing it.
