Does anyone actually walk?

So I just created a new character this week to truly role play with. I created a Nord named Theodraal Stormcrown (combo between Theoden (LOTR) and draal which means dragon (at least according to one naming website!) and Stormcrown was one of the many names used for Tiber Septim according to lore)

Anyway, I have literally tried to play with him as real as possible, and by that I mean walking everywhere when I'm going to do quests. I walked from Riverwood to Whiterun to inform the Jarl of the dragon attack, and since then I've been doing bounty missions through the inn keeper at the Bannered Mare to boost stats and to also mine a lot of ore because I'm trying not to buy any ingots this time, just carrying a pickaxe with me and mining everything. I am almost up to a full suit of upgraded Steel Armor with him and I have been able to maintain my walking habit (except when times call for running around like in battle!).

It has been satisfying so far and really fun, however I do find myself getting impatient but not for the reason you might think...I get tired of only being able to gradually push the left thumbstick to walk and so often I want to just push it all the way forward just because it's easier! I did this kind of thing in Oblivion, but I never had a problem walking because I could just push the key down on the keyboard to walk and I would also have to push shift down to run and I didn't let myself do that it and it was fine for me.

Has anyone else tried to truly walk, eat, sleep, roleplay? I can eat and sleep at inns easily every night, but man that walking part is hard with a controller!

Usually only inside of cities... and then when I don't have anything else to do. I'm sure it's easier on the PC, but on console, my thumb cramps after so long.. lol

SOMEtimes..... very rarely

Well I don't walk everywhere. I do run though (don't sprint) and never fast travel, I use carriages. I eat and drink every now and then, not rigorously though. I usually sleep when I'm in towns so the shops will open if I have loot, or if I'm setting off on a long journey I'll sleep to 6am and head off. I'll also stop at a roadside inn if it's late and I'm travelling and I'll sleep until 6am.

I run, sprint occasionally, fast travel a lot, and use the carriages in the beginning to get to a distant town.

Hoofing it is definaetly a lot more immersive and fun experience, but damnit it is so tempting to use that fast travel ("oh, just to turn in this quest" or "oh, just to advance the main quest") and often when I start characters with that intention, it doesn't last terribly long (usually just untill I next play that character).

I usually do exactly this. If I have loot to sell, I'll sleep till 8:00 when the shops open and then leave town, or if I'm just sleeping somewhere on the road (like a bandit camp I just cleared such as Valtheim Keep) I'll sleep till 5:00 because it's about then that the Sun starts coming up and I figure my guy would want to be up at sunrise.

I haven't been anywhere but Whiterun so far and Riverwood with my new character, but I'm about to journey up to Bleak Falls Barrow now that I have some upgraded gear.

I travel on foot all of the time, but if you mean actual walking, yes I will do that sometimes, just to enjoy the view.

I walk now but only because I found a mod a while back that adjusted the walk speed, otherwise doing so was intolerably slow. The adjusted speed is closer to what feels like my normal RL walking speed. Now I find I don't mind walking most of the time, unless I'm sneaking over long distances and then I'm doing the sneak run because, again, the sneak walk is just too damn slow unless I *need* to be barely inching along for some reason.

The only time I walk when I see a wonderful sunset.

I'm guilty of being an almost constant runner. I walk only when inside buildings (taverns/shops/homes/etc.) and sometimes around town.

When my character is stronger I will eventually time how long it takes to walk from Solitude to Riften.

This will be a day to remember. And a day where I have absolutely nothing to do.

I walk when I'm in towns and buildings (not including dungeons and dangerous caves of course). I usually run on horseback or walk on horseback to give the feeling of superiority to my character so he seems like the Listener that he is.

I rarely fast travel, I try to walk (run?) everywhere. Actually *walking*? As much as I like immersion it's just way too slow.

I walk around a fair bit, just because I can and the scenery is nice. You dont have to rush everywhere like a headless chicken. Its nice to slowdown and take in the view.

I would if it was more like a toggle thing, but it's not. I can't fully toggle whether to walk or run, so I just stick with running. I might try walking once I know all the controls for the PC version.

Oh. You meant not fast traveling. I sometimes fast travel. Sometimes don't. Depends. I prefer not to, though. I don't do the eat, sleep, and drink part of role playing just because I don't want to.

Skyrim on the PC has a toggle run/walk key... It's caps lock... I should have at least guessed it would be.

I've played for over 700 hours and I walk everywhere, unless I'm using a horse.

I tend to do quite a bit of walking. When I started I mostly walked (though I would fast travel while back tracking to town and just treat it like a flash forward aka "2 hours later..." like in a movie or series.

After contracting Lycanthropy I would do quite a bit more running (but then I used the added stamina and running as part of his inner wolf pushing his adrenaline and aggression even going so far as to drastically change his fightin style from shield and sword to sprinting back and forth while fighting for quick running stabs and slashes with a pair of daggers)

Mostly now I have a pretty steady mic of walking and fast travel. For some reason I don't really run all that much (I'm playing mainly on the 360)

All my characters walk when they must go from one place to another, as the npcs do. They run/sprint only during fights or when they flee from some danger they think is too much for them. :)

I actually mean physically not running in the game nor spriting. Ya know, actual walking not failing to use fast travel. With the anologue sticks of the pad you get to walk if you want. Its nice to not have to run anywhere for a bit and litterally walk along a riverbank or cliffside on a nice day in Skyrim. It makes for some nice views.

Hey guys,

My name is Dave I'm new to this forum but I've played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim religiously since their respective releases many years ago. I wanted to add that I never, ever fast travel in Skyrim nor did i in Oblivion. Morrowind will always have a spot in my heart because when you did quests you would actually have to prepare for journey into the wilderness without access to potions, vendors, and people to repair your gear unless you had the armorer skill. I think that is the heart of these games. Fast travel was created to make games like duh'blivion marketable to the mass public that are not interested in the RP aspect. Traveling in Skyrim extends gameplay exponentially. One of my characters a lvl 20 DE Assassin I have 40 hours logged on and still have never been to Markath (SP?) Dawnstar or Winterhold. I will only use the paid cart service to travel between cities when I am pressed for time. If you want to experience the real game, don't fast travel; walk or ride.

I don't see the problem with the inclusion of fast travel, it's not forcing you to use it and I never do use it because I feel it breaks immersion. I think it's right it's been included for gamers who would like to use it, after all more money means better quality games doesn't it ? doesn't it ???? Maybe not...
