does anyone else still love bethesda despite all the bugslet

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 12:34 pm

Despite the fact that Bethesda have clearly released a very buggy game with some questionable design additions and retractions, and despite the fact I have come face to face with some game breaking bugs and some personal niggles with certain aspects of gameplay myself, I can't help but still love Bethesda for who they are and what they do. I find the amount of complaints focused directly on Bethesda being incompetent in some way laughable - that is how it is supposed to be with Bethesda - they release a buggy mess of a game, with the potential to be absolutely legendary, and over time the issues are teased out, the mods are added, and in the end we get something very close to a perfected elder scrolls experience. I admire them greatly, despite their faults, because to me they are the ONLY DEVELOPER doing anything truly original and great in the games industry.
Bethesda is like an eccentric grandad who sits in the corner by the fire smoking a pipe at the family christmas - his mental health is questionable, and what he says might not be completely true, but he sure as hell has more interesting tales to tell than those insipid children rolling around on the floor, or that drunk mother ranting at the dinner table about Jane's sisters mothers boyfriends aunt's life threatening toe operation.

I expected Skyrim to be a very buggy game at launch. So no I was not let down. I knew what to expect going in to this game. Now that its out I can now suggest things that I think should be fixed.

I think we're going to need some stunt gel for all the flames...but here goes.

I agree, Bethesda rocks. Despite a few bugs I have experienced, this game is awesome. I think they could have gone with a little less "streamlining" of the game to be truer to the Elder Scrolls roots, but it's still a very fun game and I'm heavilly addicted (I get twitchy at work a few hours before 5. Gotta get my fix!). :tes:

Lets put it this way...

They've created some of my favourite games ever. Even though Skyrim is a laggy mess, I've bought a SSD to try and remedy it.

Skyrim is the only game I play. Whether it's rubbish on the PS3 or not, I still love it.

So yeah, I have only have minor issues with them, and I still love Skyrim. Were they not around, Skyrim and Oblivion wouldb't have been.

T'is better to have loved and lost....

Love ?!?

Morrowind, Oblivion and even Fallout 3 were nothing but huge, bland and boring games, emphasizing Quantity over Quality. Gothic 1 was better than Morrowind at its time because it had immersion most importantly, tons of it, while Morrowind was just huge and better looking.

It is only now, with Skyrim, that Bethesda truly did a good job with an RPG game.

I am reasonably happy with Skyrim, but may not get the next game if they don't improve in some of the areas they are proven to be notoriously bad at, such as balancing, dialog, writing, quest branches, alternate quest outcomes, and overuse of essential tags.

I can ignore the bugs. It's all the changes in gameplay that make me a sad puppy.

The only bump I have with Bethesda is that Todd Howard lied about the engine and that they were holding negative facts about the PS3 version. Honestly I'm still having a hard time to give these a pass.
I realized the simplification (or some prefer the offending word "dumbing down") they made in the series though, I just happen to not having objections to any of those calls. Though I understand it's critical to some.
Overall, I still like Bethesda (for now). But seriously, if they keep that lying habit, then I'd be joining the nitpicking force.

Atleast they fixed the memory leaks in the engine finally. Why was it so hard that they didnt fix them in Oblivion. That would have been issue #1 I wouldve brought in from Morrowind. But yeah, being lied to about the new engine was a letdown.

As a pc gamer (preferentially), I am quite disappointed in the menu's, hotkeys (stupid favourites thingy), the fast levelling, the easiness, the disappearance of stats, perks (should be a foulout exclusive, just call them something else), the inability to select a sub quest to give me a pointer, an inability to do more than one thing in your menu, rehashed sound effects from fallout??? that’s it so far as only played a short time.

But unless I want to play an mmo, it’s one of the best modern rpg's out there with an open world, non linear in that you can stray from the main quest, the lore and story are good and it looks pretty.

Morrowind was made for pc, but this has dumbed it down for the consoles market, 'love bethesda?' I see the slow path spiralling downwards; I think we're becoming estranged friends.

I quite enjoy Skyrim. I am *not* having bugs similar to most in the game. I have had no quests break. I haven't had any permanent graphic issues. Everything I've wanted to do in the game I have been able to do. I have had no problems with resistances either. I don't actually use them at all nor do I play a class with inherent resistances.

Its not that I'm a real fan of Bethesda, but I do like the games they make. Perhaps I'm tolerant.. perhaps I've just been lucky.. (I really haven't experienced any game breaking bugs in any of the ones I've played) I will keep enjoying most Bethesda games as I have when they decide to put them out. If they put out more, fine.. If they don't, also fine.. I will always find something to entertain me ;)

But I really have no problems with Bethesda. Bugs happen, no software has ever been "perfect" and life goes on.

Despite it all, very yes. This game has amazing potential. Can't wait for the Creation Kit.

Bethesda's games rock, even if they are a little buggy. They certainly aspire for more than most game companies out there

I wouldn't even describe it as "a very buggy game." I don't think it is. The things that are showing up now from so many people playing on a lot of different systems will be fixed. It happens with each release and if anyone didn't want to deal with that, they shouldn't have bought it on release day. I've been saying that if there are 50 things that aren't working right, there have to be at least 500,000 things that are and that's a .0001 % problem rate. pffft. There's a big problem with the PS3 version but they're working on that and have fixed most of it according to their latest update. I have a PS3 and that was good news. Too many negative Nellies about and if they've decided no more Bethesda games for them, I only have one thing to say. Hugs to you and I hope you have a perfectly wonderful life. :)

More then ever.
Bethesda games always have bugs and glitches because they are so big and I'm used to that by now. If I couldn't get past bugs, glitches and freezing (Morrowind would freeze on me at least once and hour at the time) I wouldn't be playing TES games.
Skyrim runs like a treat on my xbox 360, I haven't had any game-breaking bugs, and the game is just breathtakingly beautiful and so much fun to play, I can easily see past a few little niggles I might have. It's in my top 3 games of all times already to be honest.

oh jesus, how am I delusional? I am being completely frank, honest, and logical - I know what Bethesda are like as a games company, I knew there would be bugs and things taken away or replaced that I wouldn't like, and despite all those being realised upon the actual release of Skyrim, I still think they are far and away the best game developer ever - who else even attempts to make games on such a scale? No one else even dares - they all stick to mediocre first person shooters, sports games, or linear hack n slash games - things that can be made quickly and competently and will always provide a safe financial return.

They haven't let me down and have continued to give me many, many, many hours of enjoyment for a handful of dollars with the promise of many more to come.

How could I not still love them?
