Does anyone use Sneak with Heavy Armor?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:51 am

I am considering making a build with Sneak and Heavy Armor. I'm currently borderlining on obsession with having a Heavy Armor tank, but a build that I am looking at would utilize Stealth a lot.

This in mind, I wouldn't be utilizing Stealth to get up on people and do backstabs and stuff like that. Mainly to get the drop on people, and get the first attack from afar, and then tank when they close in on me.

Oh sure. Get the muffle sneak perk and also the muffle spell. You are a noisy beast otherwise. The Falmer are blind and they make good test subjects as regards to how much noise you make.

I use heavy armour and always sneak...

But forget using it to creep up to people. You`ll be spotted\heard every time.

I only sneak to avoid immediate detection in dungeons. But then i`m a warrior not a thief and don`t expect to be able to sneak in full plate anyway.

I rarely play heavy armor characters, but when I do I use sneak to get a x3 bonus on sneak attacks with archery.

I'm playing a vampire with one sneak perk and muffle armor, I could have a mammoth tied to my back and no one would know I in the room.

And don't forget the Muffle-enchanted boots! :)

It sounds like you use Sneak in a similar fashion that I intend to.

I also would be playing a warrior, and I'd have no delusions of sneaking up on people to silently slit their throats. It would mainly be a positioning tool, so that I could scout out a room of bad guys and asses my situation before aggroing the entire room on me.

It`ll work perfectly in that case. This is exactly what I use it for.

u can use the light version of dragon armor for better protection
but, my orc is usign the heavy dragon armor & sneak. lvl <30
- muffle heavy armor perk
- 20% better sneak perk from sneaking tree
after firing 1 arrow the enemies, they see me, at best just before entering my axes range. i will improve the snakiness to be able to use the 6x 1hd dmg multiplier.
so if you want to sneak kill you'll need preety much sneak increasing bonuses (if not the peks there are rings, amulets & other that can give 15-30% bonus)
for a sneak character, based on bow you'll get (depending on specific aim, positioning, search trajectory of the targeted enemy) a few arrows to the target (the sneak bonus perk should help)

Have you put any perks into Sneak at all?

Looking at the perks I want to spend on this build, investing in Sneak isn't really something I'm looking to do. Especially since I'm not trying to backstab, rather, just check out the situation before I storm in.

My guy is heavy armour and sneaks. Slower movement through dungeons, walking is tooo slow, normal speed too fast. Can usually one shot most opponents with my bow, then get into meele range for any tougher opponents.
Wasn't planning on this style of gameplay, but it does make things much easier when exploring dungeons.

Sneak + silence is all you need. But muffle and the invisibility spell are good additions to this to prevent higher level enemies to spot you.
By the way, were to find muffle boots that could be disenchanted? Only found nightingale and dark brotherhood boots in 3 playthroughs.

I sneak all the time in heavy armor, but mainly i use it, to get a gauge on the enemies, and then i see how many i can shoot with a bow and get 2x damage before i'm spotted and the stuff hits the fan. But since i have no perk points in sneak or archery, i normally can't really take down anyone, but it does give me a solid head start on a group of enemies before i cut them down. Unless they're mages, then i might be able to take them down with archery alone.

I recently started using ebony armour on my assassin character, after I got hold of the 'ebony mail' artifact with it's sneak perks. Wondered if I could make it work as effectively as light-armour.

I enchanted some ebony boots with muffle, changed to the steed stone for the armour perks and I can sneak right up to falmer and slit their throats undetected! I do have 100 for sneak and many perks in the sneak tree though...

Get Ebony Mail, then Muffle on your boots and it's fine.

Had to go work or I would`ve replied sooner. had a feeling you`d have a question like this.

No. No perks in sneak at all.

I am using Heavy Armor and Sneak on this character and I have to say it is fun and more of a challenge. Light Armor and Sneak is way to easy anymore and that is what I usually use on a character, so it became boring after awhile.

Sambuca,
I do the same thing. Ebony mail is my favorite. Enchanted the guantlets and boots with archery and one hand. Great stealth warrior character.

I always sneak in Heavy Armor. I don't get really close to enemies, just close enough for my bow. At most I take just the first Sneak perk (20% better) and maybe a muffle enchant. Its works O.K.. If I really need to get close or avoid enemies the armor comes off.

I thought the whole point of wearing heavy armour is so you don't have to sneak up to people :P

I only use heavy armor and the first skill I maxed out was sneaking. I sneak everywhere. And there are perks in heavy armor that help make sneaking easier too.

sneaking naked in some caves and then when the moment is perfect do a sneak hit and then in matrix style slip in your heavy armor of choice to be able to fight like a "man"
this is the way to go for sneaky type heavy armor characters.
