Does fireice dragon breath count as magic?.

I have an armor rating of 1000 and Dragons still toast me in a couple seconds with their silly breath.

I'm not sure armor rating protects against magic. Also the armor cap is about 567 or something so the 1000 isn't helping.

Shouts are magic, so yeah. Just shield bash mid-breath if you use a shield. That's what I do anyways. :P

It's magic. Armor only protects against physical damage unless it's enchanted to provide magic resistance. I would recommend either getting some frost/fire resist potions or buy/enchant armor for the resistance.

1. Shouts are Magic.
2. Use Wards.

^ That's also what I did. All my armor is enchanted with magic resistance, mages used to destroy me(dragons too), now, not so much. Melee warrior vs frost mage is.. less than convenient.

So, even though I have over 567, the virtual cap is of 567?. That's odd.

PS: Thanks, everyone for your response!.

Well the cap is 80% damage reduction, not sure what armor rating that equals to but it's under 1000. You can reach armor cap with any heavy armor in the game, even iron. Just need a lot of smithing potions, smithing gear and skill.

It makes choosing Light Armor or Heavy Armor rather pointless. Just aesthetics.

I find using the Spellbreaker shield quite effective against defending from shouts myself. A high armor rating helps but not much.
