Does Magic seem incomplete?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:16 am

First time I have played an elder scrolls game and I would normally not post in a forum but I am completely lost here and would like to get some feedback. I started a magic user and was looking through some of the perk trees and am trying to figure out what type of armor to wear. I noticed there are trees for the light armor and heavy armor but no tree for cloth wearers (does the bonus to the armor spell make up for no tree?) is it not smart to wear anything but heavy or light armor? I see vendors carrying all types of light and heavy armor but I only see robes and hoods for cloth being sold. Also, I am not finding a way to craft cloth? Is this not in the game or do I need to wait? I am lvl 17.

Oh ya, I can also make all sorts of weapons too, but I can't find a recipe to craft a staff for the life of me. I have found a couple of staffs tho and they seem redundant...they use up one of my hands and prevent me from dual casting my fireballs. But I am working on enchanting so I can put a 2nd enchantment on my staff once I find a good spell to put on it and get my enchanting to 100.

Yes, it does feel very incomplete imo.

cloth does not have a perk tree, use the alteration tree for armor if you use cloth.
you cannot craft staves.

Yeah, that's why I downloaded a mod that adds over 90 new magic spells.

You should be able to make your own robes and staves. That would be really fun. I feel like the entire magic based gameplay for Skyrim is really cut down. There is a lot of new animations and flashy effects and the trap spells and stream spells and wall spells and dual wielding but I was hoping for more.

There used to be an unarmored skill, but they removed that.

Yes. It is incredible how boring a mage build is compared to all previous games, and this is due to magic being incomplete in Skyrim.

There's another mod that'll let you create stronger enchantments on cloth than on armors.

There is no unarmoured perk tree. I'm not sure if the magic is unfinished or if they decided to go for a more Game of Thrones feel and deliberately gimped magic.

Yes, magic is incomplete. They just simply don't have enough spells or enough variety in spells.

No feather
No open
No waterwalking
No cure disease
No fortify spells

And what I was really disappointed with how many spells are in game. Come on, only 1 flames spell? What the hell do I do until I reach expert and can use wall spells? There is simply no excuse. There should be a flames like spell novice through expert and same with on target and AOE.

Or they could simply go back to spell crafting so THE PLAYER can decide how he/she plays. Beth, it wasn't too spreadsheety, that was just an excuse.

Don't get me wrong, the magic is good despite what I said, and the game itself is remarkable, but they became too reliant on perks to get the job done when all we really want is just MORE content.

I find mages the weakest and most boring out of all the archetypes destruction is extremely bad with this. but I think part of it has to do with their experimenting before release Todd had said there were 3 types of functions to a destruction spell a spray (flames) a singular bolt (firebolt) and an aoe spell (incinerate) now these spells do not have ranks that increase like they should why? well....... Todd also mentioning something about combining spells but I forgot what it was about

Yes. Most RPGs in recent memory and upcomming (KAO/DIII) all have better magic systems.

I'm glad someone else remembers this, I wasn't sure if I were imagining things, so sucessfully was it swept under the carpet.

We were meant to be able to combaine certain spells that could interact with eachother. I seem to remember discussions where this new feature was being used (maybe not by Tod himself, but certainly by people on here) as justification for the removal of another feature, Spellmaking.

Mages are perfecly fine in the illusion line and conjuration line. For personal damage, you're just fine as long as you use a bound bow and perk out archery.

Avoid destruction unless you are maxed in illusion and conjuration. With mayhem and dremora lords providing damage, you can plink away with your weak destruction spells without feeling like you're having to do it all yourself with weak damage.

I get Diablo 3 but what is KAO. Also you forgot Dragons Dogma. I think all these games giving Bethesda competition we won't be seeing a repeat of Elder Scrolls Skyrim in lacklusterness (in the areas like magic) because gamers won't put up with that do to a new standard being created.

Not incomplete. It suits the game well enough. Could it bebefit from an addition or twoin future DLC? Well, I'd never say 'no'... :)

But is it as terrible a vocal minority make out? Not at all.

They removed spellmaking and many effects, you see the predictable result.
Yes lot of stuff can be moded in, also because of the limitation it's much more focus on it than in Oblivion.
