Does the game continue after "beating" it?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:17 am

Will it still be open after the main story lines are completed or will it end until DLC opens it back up like Broken Steel?

I'm 37 hours in and avoiding the main story line because I don't want to finish it if gameplay ends.

I'm finishing it up right now. I will let you know if it ends or if it able to be continued.

Obsidian claim to have created an ending more along the lines of Fallout 1 (which ended) in which your actions during the game are covered and the consequences revealed. For them to allow you to continue after that would defeat the purpose of the effort they put into the ending.

Personally I'm hoping to never see a BS style DLC.

Yes, it ends like FO3.

And the first DLC is scheduled to roll in this holiday season. Exclusive to 360. :celebration:

They said they wouldn't be changing the ending like Broken Steel did as the game let's you see the changes to the Mojave due to your actions and it wouldn't make sense to allow you to continue.

Then is was a bad idea from the start... If I wanted to NOT play the game I wouldn't have bought it. For crying out loud!

Glad I'm on the PC and can mod past this crap.

Just competing 1 quest must so important to some people. Just load up the point of no return save then keep playing. Heck your not going to be able do all the quests in one play through anyway.

This.

The appendices of my CE guide book list up to "Ending 27."

New Vegas is a huge world. If you like a specific character, keep a side save going. this game has lots of quests and options and obviously endings. It appears to have tons of replay value. I glad too. I doubt we are going to see another Fallout game for a while. I really hope we get a ESV, or at least an announcement, within a year or so.

I wouldn't mind a New Game Plus option where you restart the game Doc Mitchell revives you with all your leveled stats. Solves both problems, I think.

Any smart person would reload an earlier save or a save just before finishing the main quest. Duh.

And Broken Steel with its insanely linear story, crappy new perks, and increasing our already demigod status at level 20 via increased level cap wasn't a mistake?

The only reason Fallout 3's ending svcked is mostly because the story wasn't too engaging in the first place. Hell, the reason why I started it in the first place was just so I could get the Power Armor Training perk from the Citadel, and the reason why I finished it from there is because I already beat everything else and was bored out of my mind. The only interesting part was
Spoiler
when you were captured and had to escape from Raven Rock
and even that didn't have any lasting appeal to it. Though even though it wasn't too great, it really needed to end where it did. It just kind of killed it for me whenever
Spoiler
you're originally supposed to sacrifice yourself, but NO, you survived because of half-assed plot convenience.

At least this story is engaging, memorable, and has, from what I've heard, a great ending that truly is a Fallout ending.

I think Bethesda needs to get Obsidian to write the story of Fallout 4. Who's with me on that? :icecream:

Having a well-made ending is nice, considering that it is basically supposed to allow you to see what happens because of you many years later. However, I think that Fallout 2 allowed you to still wander the wastes afterwards, though I don't think you could create new endings from that point. I think having a clear "point of no return, settle your affairs" is the best way to handle having freeplay and a satisfying ending.

I wouldn't mind it if we got a Newgame+ though, where we are reset to LV1, keep our perks, and tagged skills with the ability to pick more Tags every 10 levels. (That way, we can become the god-king after three or four games with a single character.)

"Repeating past mistakes" would be putting out a Broken Steel-type DLC continuation.

FO3 having an End wasn't a problem at all. The problem with the FO3 ending was that the dialogue & script for it svcked.

Oh, and we've known that "OMG, it ENDS!111!1one!!!11!!" for months now.

Good thing I saw this, now I will slow down even more and explore.. since I know the end is inevitable. I just would like a warning box or something saying.. are you sure you want to continue with this fight, this will end the game permantly!

Well, the ending qualm
Spoiler
More so, they failed when they let you have a companion who was completely and utterly not in any sort of risk of dying in the sacrifice scenario.

Don't worry, there's a -very- blatant prompt telling you that you're entering the final quest and you can't return after you accept.

Maybe I'm not looking at this the right way but , if the game ends and then there is a DLC that does not change the fact that it ended (in other words trying to add additional content to the game...which has already ended) , how would that work? I mean if someone has already finished the game , which a lot of us will most likely do prior to the first DLC , how would the DLC be added into the game? would you have to start over or have to revert to an earlier save?

It almost seems as if the ending should conclude the story...but leave the game open somehow. Otherwise it's just like adding an arcade shooter to an otherwise very in depth experience. Kinda ruins the whole thought of adding content , at least for me anyways.

I'm not trying to start a piss'n contest , I'm just curious.

Yep. And the are said to be so big (like the trailer where you blow up New vegas) that you just can't continue to play.

That's pretty much all I didn't like about Broken Steel.

Yes, it let you continue after the main story was done - which was great. It's a big wasteland and I wasn't done exploring it. And some of the Broken Steel side quests were humorous.

But... raising the level cap to level 30 while giving you 10 more perks and increasing your skills by another ~150 points (assuming an INT of 5) was game-breaking and they had to introduce overpowered enemies like Albino Radscorpions to put you in your place.

I liked that I could continue playing, but didn't like the game balance issues past level 20 when you basically became a demi-god. If they could fix that with a DLC for New Vegas, I'd be very happy. Maybe give us extra levels and perks (say 5 levels worth) but we only earn skill points at 1/3 the normal level-up rate after level 20.
