@Colvax
Take a look at STEP from the nexus.

I'd suggest reading the PDF file. Not the mods compiler particularly, but some of the settings he suggests. It may help u narrow in on possible tweaks that may improve your setup.

Thanks very much for that. Tweaking the grass distance fade values made it much nicer-looking:

...I also put my ugrid value at 7 as per the guide but switched back to default 5 because I noticed the resulting FPS drop too much. Also, I have no idea why, but changing the ugrid value to 7 gives me this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/castrostaal/TESV2012-05-3014-24-11-57.jpg ...keeping the default value (5), keeps Cicero and Pale Hold Guard's clothes intact. :confused: Who knows...

@pandorax thanks, I'll take a look at that as well. :smile:

I hope it's not too late ; I hope you made a seperate save before adding the ugrid line, because once your game will be saved with that data in the ini, you won't be able to get back. I just tried to change the value from 9 to 7 and the game crashes whenever I want to launch it. I put the 9 value back and everything is fine.

As ladyonthemoon pointed out, there's a specific procedure you must follow to restore ugrids:
**this was taken from neogaf.com from a post by theoctagon :
uGridsToLoad is (should be) a harmless setting to play with if you know how to restore your saves. As said before, your save becomes effectively 'bound' to the value you specify and will crash the game if you try it with a lower value. What you need to do is load the save with the value it was saved at, then rewrite and refresh the ini, then save again. Here's how:

1) Load game with uGridsToLoad at the 'safe' setting - the one it was at when you saved. 2) Load the save, which should load correctly. 3) Open the console and type the following:

setini "ugridstoload:general" 5 saveini refreshini

This has restored the uGridsToLoad setting to its default while your save is already open.

4) Save the game. The save you create now will work at any uGrids setting from the default up.

Thank you! Fortunately for me, I had made backups of my saves. I just had to reload the last of them and create a hard save. After that I set the ugridtoload to 7 as I wanted. :smile:

Yes, I just updated them a couple weeks ago.

I just looked up how to increase view distance details via Skyrim.ini and the page I'm looking at suggests,

"uGridsToLoad=5 → 9
uExterior Cell Buffer=36 → 100"

...I don't even HAVE those option in my Skyrim.ini file. Mine says:

[Display]
sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460"
[Grass]
b30GrassVS=0
[Water]
bReflectLODObjects=1
bReflectLODLand=1
bReflectSky=1
bReflectLODTrees=1
[General]
sLanguage=ENGLISH

...and that's it. Nothing about a ugrid or cell buffer...

UGrids is what I used. :shrug:

setini "ugridstoload:general" 5 saveini refreshini

The command doesn't work. i get "expected end of line" when I use it.

I had to write it in manually and all was fine - I just thought it was mean to be present already in the .ini... The FPS hit was not worth it though, even just changing it from 5 to 7. I didn't bother even saving when I had it set to 7 so I was able to switch back without issue, fortunately.
