Does this Video Card work alright.

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:04 am

Hey, I rarely use the forums so if i put this in the wrong place sorry...
I am new to PC gaming and I am purchasing a new computer. The video card is 2 GB DDR5 NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 650M with Optimus?. Is that powerful enough to run Skyrim decently?
Thanks, sorry if this was a dumb question

Umm...yes. That definitely will run Skyrim. The recommended video card is 1GB, that is twice what you need. That graphics card will run just about anything you want. The computer I'm building has a 1GB nVidia 550 ti, and that is more than enough for what I need.

While video memory is important its not the only deciding factor. Example, if AMD made a 4GB version of a 5450 it would still play Skyrim on low settings.

Also mobile GPU's will perform lower than their desktop counterpart. But yes, the 650M should be fine for this game on around high settings decently.

It is really not reliable. It will tell people that they can run games, even though their hardware is not up to the task. Looking at the system requirements on the box/download page and comparing them manually is much better.

Its inaccurate and installs a persisting process on your computer that you have to manually delete to get rid of.

Fork out the extra cash for a 560 or 560Ti. You will be happy you did.

Yes I know, I also know that when I was asking people for advice on video cards, everyone used words and phrases that I didn't know at the time. The OP just wanted to know if it would run Skyrim, and it will, and I tried to answer without being too confusing. It took days of explaining before someone told me that the GB's were power, and the memory clock and bandwidth etc were speed. That was all I needed to know at that point.

A simple "Yes" would have been just fine, since that's all he was looking for.
