Well the other reason is that in 2003 I had to wait 3 days past release date until I could play HL2. Ever since I haven't trusted steam as far as I could throw it. One could also argue that buying games through or for steam is pointless seeing as how the games don't really exist in a physical sense.
Well I bought it at 9pm last night, downloaded in about 2 hours, and was playing an hour later (after a reboot of Steam client..) so I'd say it works perfectly.
And no it doesn't load GFWL.
Steam is about 8000% better than GFWL, which I wouldn't be surprised if MS dropped it within the next year. Honestly it was such a heaping pile of [poo poo].
