I'm not saying ship dogmeat 3000 miles to the west coast... but maybe in a DLC you can add in a dog you find somewhere that has no name, no owner, nothing.
You could name the dog, but first you have to gain it's trust.
It would be barkingat say food hanging/ taunting him on top a radio tower.
To get it down you have to enter the radio tower, fight a few bugs, then take the peace of meat and give it to the dog. (Or if you already have a brahmin steak, just give him that.)
After youdo that, the dog will start being friendly. It is still not completly accepted to you, but does follow and help you. Then you have to do a quest, to find out were the dog came from.
On the dog is a note tied to his neck. The note reads.
"I can hardly take care of myself... now this damn dog keeps eating right out of my pockets. I love you (Smug), but i can not take care of you any longer. If anyone happens by this note, i will have gone north, into new vegas. If you wish to take care of the dog, go right ahead, if you want more information about him, come find me in vegas. My name is Martin Kinsfli."
At this point you get to name the dog, just as you named yourself at the begging of the game.
When you go to vegas, you can ask around, if anyone has seen Martin. Eventually you will be directed to a NCR officer. He will tell you what happened.
"Martin, ah yes... he disapeard recently. He stoped by, saying, someone is coming for me, you must help. We thought he was delusional.... i mean we would have helped but then he ran off right out of the strip. One of the M.P's said they saw a strange man stalking him. He wore a grey trench coat and had a brimmed hat, the solider said."
After searching around the strip, inside the tops, in the restraunt, you will find a grey trench coat guy wearing a brimmed hat. After talking to him he tells you the dog owner's story.
In the end, you find the owners body, on it is a dog coller, but no name on the coller. After you put it on your dog, you get the "Man's best Friend" Perk for your dog. This perk makes it so he can sniff out, Ammo, Food, and even bottle caps.
What you guys think? Would this be a cool companion?
