My first and second playthrough I did every faction but now I make specific characters with backstories which will only do one or two factions.

I do the exact same thing, that way I can see what factions I like most and decide what type of character to play next, I prefer later playthroughs as you don't have to complete every quest as you know them already, that way you can do what you feel your character would do.

I'm always switching between my imperial jack of all trades who does everything (I call him a battlemage assassin) to my three separate characters and i can never find which one i like best, because they all have such cool backstories, but my favorite thing about doing all the factions is the roleplaying challenge of making a character that does everthing.

My main character did that, good luck with roleplaying. I just roleplayed my character as bonkers.

I've had my hands full just doing one faction questline each time. This usually takes me around 150-200 hours or so, and then I start a new character.

One nice benefit of splitting them up is that I've managed to save a lot of juicy content for future playthroughs. So far I've played around 600 hours and still haven't completed Mage's College or Thieves Guild, and haven't touched the Bard's College, Imperial Legion or Dark Brotherhood yet.

I do every faction, but in different orders. Sometimes I want to take other things down with the different rewards of each main quest.

Nope. I like to role play my character and only have him do quests and join factions that fit. It just ruins the experience to have some character who is the master of all guilds.

I actually do have just one character that will do every faction questline.
But there's a good roe-play reason for it.
