Am I doing something wrong? Still can't do Damepend spirits.

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:31 am

Finished the civil war quests at last. Joined the Stormcloaks and kicked Maven out of the Jarl's house in Riften in the hopes that I would now be able to talk to her to start the "Damepned spirits" quest. But no....her only dialogue options are "So you have connections with the Thieves Guild?" and "You carry weight in Riften". Neither of which allows me to start the quest. Brynjolf still says "Sorry lad, I've got important things to do" and Mercer Fey still just ignores me.

This is really agitating me. I want to do the Thieves Guild quest line so badly, but now despite everything I've done I'm still not going to get to. What am I doing wrong? I completed loud and clear long ago, I did everything right and still can't progress forward.

What's the last Thieves quest you were able to complete?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:PS22.png After completing the quest http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Loud_and_Clear, if the player does not ask Brynjolf why Maven Black-Briar is requesting a meeting, the quest will not become available. Also Brynjolf will not speak to the player, saying only that he has "important tasks to be doing".

According to UESP, this is a PS3 bug.

Yeah, something isn't right there. I didn't have any issues with it at all. Sounds like a bug in your game.

Try speaking to Maven and see what happens.

Unfortunately that is misinformation, well not entirley but mainly the quest not starting is due to a different reason, the reason ill explain is way more common, ive bern dealing with this for over a month. I along with tons of other people have tried it every way possible and nothing works.
It's actually do to breaking in some place before hand. I forget where, it'd the honningbrew brewery or something like that. We know this because people using console commands can fix it by unbreaking into the place.

Anyway there is good and bad news. Good news is the next patch fixes this issue. The bad is if you already turned in loud and clear and went to play without dampened spirits starting then it will probably never start. You have to had saves before turning it in so when the patch comes out you'll be able to turn it in then proceed with the dampened. Basically the patch fixes the issue but doesn't automatically start dampened spirits if you already left without it starting. Although there is rumors that you can go back and talk to byrinoff and he will engage in conversation which will lead to starting dampaned spirits.

You will just have to wait and see when the patch comes out.

I spoke to her after finishing the civil war, but it's just the standard dialogue you get as if you just met her. I can only ask about her power in Riften, which she just finishes up with calling me stupid. Or I can ask her about her connection with the Thieves Guild, to which she just goes on about her history and then...nothing.

I'm on the 360 so I'm guessing it's a multi-platform bug. Is there any indication it's being worked on or when there will be a patch?

Thanks, but Damn...yeah I probably won't get it to start then. I can only hope it works for me but I thought I could fix the issue with the civil war quests and that didn't work either so I can't keep my hopes up.

Any idea when the next patch is?

Supposed to be submitted this week so hopefully soon. If I were you I would back track to right before to hand in loud and clear. If you have a save during that time you can go do other things then when the patch comes out you can go turn it in and continue on with the guild.

Think of it like this. Say you get the bug where you sold a quest item before you ever had the quest. The patch will not automatically return that item to you, what will happen is the patch will just make it so you can never sell the item until needed. The patch will fix these issues for another playthrough. That's why when I realized no matter what I did I couldn't get dampened spirits to start I went back a little and before I turned in loud and clear. That way post patch I can turn it in and start dampened spirits.

Ah but I'd lose all that progress post that if I wanted to keep the TG line, eh? Meh if it doesn't work I just won't bother and I'll play the TG line on another play through with a whole other character.

Ya see what happens after the patch. Go try to talk with maven and byrinoff and see if the quest starts. If not then maybe another character like you said.

I was just so upset when it happened to me because I am playing a theif character and the guild was a huge part of my characters story. I'm glad it will be fixed. Plus I really didn't want to miss out on the cool armor at the end.

It's been confirmed with the beta that dampened spirits automatically pops up after installing the patch. So your good now.
