I′m currently on an educational course I thought I′d like but I've found another thing I wish to do while I've lost interest in the thing I'm studying because it's not nearly as creative as I originally thought it would be. Now I′m just continuing my studies with little enthusiasm (actually didn't do so well last semester since I got lazy, got no one to blame but myself though, just don′t have the drive I had at the start) and wondering if I should go on a course that's better for what I wish to do, but the problem with what I wish to do is that it's a job that only one in every million people end up being successful doing.

So as it stands the only thing that interests me is a dream smashed with the hammer of statistics on the anvil of realism.

Really uncertain where to go from here on out.

Ellert, so finish the current degree if it not too far away. or like, if you were working on BA, just take the AA/AS instead and switch your major and or minor to something else. or make your other thing the major and this current one the minor.

well, if it was your dream, then don't give up on it just because of statistics are stacked against you. think of them as opportunity to challenge self against instead of roadblock to making it work.

same goes for everyone else here who too had their dreams smashed by reality.

Let me take this one more step.

Is your passion your work, or do you work to achieve your passion?

My wife and I go around with this from time to time. She like her job, but believes that her job gives her the opportunity to explore her passions. Money allows one to take trips, spend time with kids, etc.

I believe that my job should be my passion. I've turned my avocation as a youngster into my voaction as an advlt.

I remember having a few good chats with some rec professors about how work can actually be play. Unfortunatly, they were too long ago for anything useful here :/

I'm a graphic designer or a fake graphic designer...whatever. Who pretends to be a graphic designer anyways? :shrug:

I don't love what I do, but at the same time I don't dislike it. I do it because i'm good at it and for the recognition I get from people who I aspire to be. Sadly, I do not have the drive to do what they do...its so much easier sitting behind a computer and making art than paying for recording sessions, playing shows every night, writing music all while working a part time job on the side.

I guess it just goes to show, if you're passionate about something and love what you do, you'll go through the trouble of doing so.

I'd say be happy overall. Some people, like me, never find that perfect job for them but they have a goal to achieve what they perceive as eternal happiness. If you can get there without driving yourself into an early grave, you're golden.

At the same time though, me going back to school to get a degree in marketing is my way of being responsible and sensible...so its kind of complicated..

Being that I'm not out of highschool this isn't a matter I can comment on.....

I'm planning on pursuing Archaeology as my profession, specializing in ancient warfare.

Both my parents, and most of the other advlts I know hate there job and barely eek out a living doing it, I don't want to end up like that.

I posted before but didn't really answer the question.

I'm pursuing two things that I love right now. I'm in college studying Chemical Engineering, chemistry always being a love for me. But I'm in this school on a scholarship for a sport, a sport that I'd love to be able to take to the pro stage, if only for a while. It's highly unlikely, but a dream. I have a feeling that with my degree I'll be able to do something that I love because I love chemistry and science.
