Domination & Revenge

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:29 am

Just as TF2 and some other FPS online shooters have, would you like to see domination and revenge thrown into this game. I personally would not like to see it since it produces grudges against other enemies, and when given the chance to help the team or kill the guy or girl who just dominated you some would choose the later of the two.

So what are your views?

I don't think this fits in this game. The focus is not on killing so revengekills are excluded.
I personally hate domination and I don't think it will work in this game. Not gameplay wise, nor do I think that the spawnsystem was designed for this type of gameplay anyways.

This would actually detract from the game in my mind. This game is objective driven multiplayer not slayer or team deathmatch. Hunting someone down because they are dominating you probably won't help your team that much.

No, it's a bad idea. Because one of the main points of the game is that it is not centralized on kills, it would take away from the experience., having people go specifically for kills. I'm all for borrowing from TF2 though.

not sure what your definition of "domination" is but mine is as a gametype where a team has to take control of certain points of a map to win (Unreal Tournament games). The control point gametype in TF2 is just another name for domination.

I hope to see objectives in the game that would function like a control point or domination point. If there is an SDK my plan is to make maps that function as domination maps.

Domination in TF2 is when someone kills somebody 5 times (i think) without being killed by the said person then they get a Domination marker and a sound is played tell you this. The Dominated person now sees a big marker above the Dominator's head. This marker will go when the Dominated person gets his Revenge (kills the dominator).

I'm pretty sure that it will be objectives to capture certain flags. Ofcourse the other team can take it back as long as the attacking team hasn't completed a certain objective yet.
Try to take a look at the Wolfenstein ET map: Oasis. I think this will give you (and all others) a good view of how maps and objectives will work. (For the objectives: go to 4:45) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAMMpNs61Lw

thanks, yeah if I can make maps with multiple points like in that video (capture flags) I will be very happy with Brink :)

as per domination or revenge like in tf2 I changed my vote. I think the tf2 style domination might discourage new players, I dont want to be reminded of how a player is kicking my ass . A single revenge announcement if you kill the player who last killed you is fine.

And thats the point, Valve implemented this feature to have a sense of closeness between player who are total strangers. I'm sure when you play against your friend on public servers, you will go out of your way to kill him, he plays sniper? u play spy. He plays spy? you play pyro. Along wih the freeze kill cam, it makes you remember each of your enemies in a kinda small negative reinforcement kinda way. This is fine since TF2 is a game targeted to hardcoe FPS online community.

but this isn't gonna work for brink, brink is quite a hard game to juggle, since its trying to push a lot of boundries. When you play games like CoD 4(i know I know) or BC2 or TF2, you kinda expect a fairly hardcoe player base and expect a fair bit of competition. I'm fairly new to the online gaming community, and when I first played tf2 it wasn't easy, you get thrown into the deep end and bombarded with terms you have no idea of, not to mention a sizable population of people who are a tad too focused on winning. Dominations don't help get the first timer get a feel for the game.

Brink wants to be a game for every one, casual to tournament grade hard core, so dominations wouldn't be a good idea. And as every one else pointed out the objective related nature of the

Nah… I just don't see these types of game modes working, with what the developers are trying to achieve :mohawk:

It leads to people focusing on kills, and that is not what the devs want for Brink.

Yeah it doesn't fit in with the gametypes that this game is based on. Sure it can be fun for the kill orientated games (TF2 etc) but it would only create a distraction in a small squad based game.
