I don't see how everyone was complaining about random Dragon

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:14 pm

Steam has said that I've played the game for 77 hours. I played about 60 or so hours everyday. Then played off and on. For about half of the 77 hours I've played with no Fast Travel.

I haven't seen that many random dragons. The whole point of me not FTing is b/c theres that extra excitement of running into a random dragon.

Out of all 77 hours I've maybe encounterred 4 or 5 random dragons.

People were complaining the first month this came out (Thats when I bought it and played it most) that the randome dragon encounters were too many.....

That's what I was thinking haha. Unless he lives on a planet that is over 60 hours in a day...

I think there is more chance of a Dragon randomly spawning if you fast travel. I didn't fast travel to Dawnstar and there is always a Dragon everytime for me haha.

I remember people saying this back in the first couple of months, but I just didn't see it. And I fast travel a lot.

Personally, I think it's just really random. Which means that some people, yeah, will get a bunch. The die roll falls against them more than it does for others. (And the more odd a situation is, the more it stands out. So the people who do get buckets of dragons? They'll make a point of mentioning it. The people who're just puttering along getting an average amount? Won't comment because, hey - nothing notable is happening.)

I find dragons are like buses: just when you start thinking that's it's been too long without one, two come along at once.

Unfortunately you can't kill a bus and absorb it's soul. Apparently this is frowned upon :(

I never used to fast travel and rarely encountered dragons, but then when I made a new character that fast travelled I was encountering them a lot.

But like you said it could be random and it was just a coincidence that more dragons appeared when I fast travelled.

I have seen far too many of them. Fought two at the same time, only to turn around a few minutes later, to have to fight another one. It's really frustrating, and a waste. I had at one time 15 unused dragon souls and was already godlike, so I decided it would be best to download a no random dragons mod. It's not ideal, but it works, I would've rather had one that simply reduced the amount of random attacks, but made the remaining ones more challenging.

Well, that came out wrong.

Was trying to say of the 77, 60 or so of those hours were played day after day after day....back to back. Then the rest was here and there.

The only time I run into random dragons a lot os when I heavily use fast travel, especially the carriage systems. Just wondering along though I haven't ran into that many. Though I have run into multiple at once, the most is 3. I thought it was fun but I can understand how to others that situation could just be really annoying.

Okay. Some people say they see too many dragons. Some people say they see too few dragons. But neither of them mention actual numbers. It would help if you guys mention the numbers. The number of hours you played as the character is on the save file, and Dragon Souls Collected is under Magic stats.

I fast travel pretty regularly. I unlocked dragon quite early in the game but still haven't finished main quest. I played 121 hours so far and killed 16 dragons. Yes I do notice that when I fast travel, sometimes there is a dragon, but it doesn't bother me too much. I have lost a couple of town people to dragons, but no one I really miss.

I really wish I had your problem. As is, through several playthroughs I've been sweating trying to get enough souls for my shouts. When dragons do show up, they often don't attack, or are hostile to everything EXCEPT my PC. Do you have any mods installed?

I don't think that dragons appear more or less when you FT. I think that dragons while walking always appear at random encounter spawn points, which are all in the middle of no where for the most part. But when you FT they are more likely to appear near a town. When dragons appear near/in a town they are a bigger deal because NPCs can die so we remember those encounters more.

On that note, current character thas used a carriage 4 times.... 3 times a dragon appeared.

I hate 'em, even if I don't fast travel they are everywhere... They kill half of the villagers in every village they happen to cross. It's a pain in my butt, I'm tried of it, that's why I avoid the main quest on all of my characters.

Not so much about random dragons more so there is no way to stop them. After you kill the big bad dragon they never stop spawning therefor no actual affect upon the world making the entire main quest line seem pointless.

it wouldnt make sense for them to disappear..

in any case ive found they spawn most often near towns. more often the higher level you are. so thats where the fast travel comes in.

Yes it would. Only reason why there are dragons reappearing is because Alduin is rezzing them from the dead via Dragon mounds across Skyrim. Only so much dragon mounds within Skyrim and other parts of Nirn. If you kill Alduin no more dragons would appear. Right now it would be like if you closed the gates of Oblivion and defeated Mehrunes Dagon more gates will still keep appearing after you banished him back to Oblivion.

The farther in the main quest you are, the more frequent they show up

It seems to be different with each character, which is (or would be, if true) nice to see.

Never had any major issues with them. They're present but I've never felt there was an overabundance of them. I kill enough to get souls for my shouts. Sometimes I ignore them or avoid them. I enjoy fighting them. I think their lack of scripting towards me as the player is pretty damn cool. It makes it feel more like they have a mind of their own instead of me always being the center of attention. Sometimes the dragon even says f you and flys off. Pretty cool in my book.

Seems like there dragons spawn more when you fast travel
and also travelling to a quest destination.
