On the quest called One for my Baby where you try and find out who was involved with Boone's wife disappearance, when you question Manny Vargas about the kidnapping, Manny says “When I first heard the news, my first thought was, I owe somebody. Big.”

I didn’t read about who’s the real perpetrator for Boone’s Wife’s disappearance from the Fallout New Vegas wiki beforehand so I thought Manny was the one responsible for kidnapping Boone’s wife. I thought its strange Manny said he owed somebody because that could mean he feels he owed Boone about getting his wife kidnapped and also Manny didn’t get along with Boone’s wife so I was sure Manny was the guilty one. So I took him in front of the Dino and Boone shot him. Of course, Manny was innocent after I read about who’s the guilty person that had a hand in Boone’s wife disappearence. So why does Manny say: “I owe somebody. Big”?To whom does he owe if he's innocent? Surely if Manny's innocent then he doesn't owe anybody anything?

Manny says "My first thought was", not "I owe somebody"

Perhaps he felt bad, they never got along and now she's gone.

I think the context of that could be that Manny owes someone for getting rid of her, since it is implied he has romantic feelings for Boone.

OR, it could be that he owes Boone because Manny didn't keep a close eye on his wife for Boone while he was up in the Dino at night.

His immediate reaction was that he was glad she was gone and that he felt that Boone would get over the loss of his wife quickly.

It's this.

I play the German version and the sentence is much clearer in German. He means he wants to thank whoever got rid of her.

If you talk to him he pretty much tells you that he couldn't stand her and thought she was a [censored].

The Limcat http://www.limcat.com/products-services/? That thing is like the Caddilac of 1911s. It was designed by JJ Racaza of Top Shot fame. Actually, it's in .38 Super, not .45, but I just like the pic.

Wow, I never took it that way. I initially thought that he was referencing his former ties with the Khans/Freeside gangs; as in, someone got rid of Carla in a misguided attempt to get back at Manny for whatever he did before joining the NCR. This remark comes right after asking Manny if he was involved in her disappearance, which clearly he was not. It would seem a bit odd for him to then outright state that he's thankful she's gone, thus implicating himself as the suspect. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Manny is more of an [censored] than I originally thought!
