Dont take Pickpocket perks (except 2)

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 3:56 pm

From what i can see most pickpocketing perks are completely useless - except 1, which is 'extra pockets' (+100 carrying).

So dont waste your precious perks on the others. The perks do not allow anything you would not simply get from skill level (except for stealing equipped items, which is kinda pointless because they are usually much worse than your own equipment).

btw the carrying capacity perk requires 3 perk points be spent in pickpocketing.

Personally I think the last 2 perks are good, but silly. It just breaks immersion being able to strip someone of their armor without them knowing.

I also understand the purpose - its for people who want to give themselves the edge in battle. Strip someone of their weapon and bam, you suddenly won't be so squishy against them since they wont have a weapon to hit you with.
Or strip them of armor and bam, your attacks will be stronger.

And also, it lets you steal much better. HOWEVER, quicksaving and quickloading still trumps this. There's still a % chance, so you're going to be quicksaving before you pickpocket anyways, just out of habit. :P

Finally, how good this skill is entirely depends on what Bethesda places in NPC character inventories. If they've got crap, then it'll be a bad skill. But if they carry some rare stuff, then pickpocketing might be useful.

I've already taken:

Light Fingers (5)
Night Thief
Cutpurse
Extra Pockets
Keymaster

Don't think I'll get Misdirection or Perfect Touch since I've never seen anything equipped that I wanted to steal, but yeah. Far from a waste I'd say, the Cutpurse perk is especially good since you can go to a trainer, train up a skill, and then steal all the money back easily, saving you up to about 10k depending on what level trainer.

Why not just rob their house? I don't see why robbing them directly is a big deal. Not worth a skill tree imo, unless bethesda puts some REALLY good stuff on high level NPCs for us to pickpocket.

And robbing skill trainers isn't much of a big deal, since training is really pointless and counter productive

From my point of view - i have a 90% steal chance on about everything i see in a NPC's inventory. So why waste perks at all?

I don't mind levelling fast, I've been focusing mainly on Speech and Pickpocket, not really struggling at all with combat. And I've found their houses have absolutely nothing of value, whereas people seem to carry some pretty expensive jewellery, rings in particular, and rubies and stuff too for some reason.

Plus if I wanted to rob their house, I could always pickpocket their key.

The problem is: you need tons of speech perks to be able to sell that stolen jewelry (or are there respectable merchants who will take that glittering stuff from my hands somewhere?)

You can only sell stolen goods to the girl in the thieves guild, sadly, even with the perk that says 'Sell any item to any merchant', I tested it out and it doesn't include stolen items, but luckily I had a save just before taking the perk.

I have all the haggling perks and allure, and I'm wearing a hood that gives me +15% and an amulet that gives +10%, both to barter price. I'm far too obsessed with making money really. To sell it all I just go to that girl in the Thieves Guild that buys anything, stolen or not, sadly she only ever has 1k at a time so I have to keep waiting 24hours, should probably get the Speech perks that lets you invest in merchants and the one that increases the amount of gold they carry.

Only one I want is the putting poison in their pockets to kill them. Bloody thalmor, skulking around markarth, cant kill becuase of gaurds

Allthough if I canuse the last perk to get nightengale armour and the bow, I will take it. I want the armour, but dont want my character to be nocturnes eternal servant. Hes a nord, so soverngaurd is his destination.

The perk was obviously designed to circumvent the fact that certain merchants only buy certain items. For stolen items there is an additional perk further down the list.

Is alchemy good enough to spend tons of perks in though? I'm deciding between it and enchanting, and enchanting just seems much more powerful

oh, you havent recieved azura's star yet? you should look into it :)

I just think the double-enchant perk is really powerful - i cant see potions matching up with that.
Plus the ability to customize your gear, to fill your weaknesses (or strengthen your strengths), is totally under your control.

Aye, had couple of spare perks that I hadn't used up, spotted that. Just took it. (':

Stop arguing. Some people might love the perks others hate them. They are there for variety of gameplay. If you don't like them don't get them. Also leveling up quickly has it's up and downs in the game as well. Some players find it beneficial to quickly obtain a master skill while others wish to work for it.

LOL. No one is arguing. We exchange views on certain perks and thats what the forum is for. Most answers in this thread have moved on to discuss entirely different issues anyway.

The main practical use of the pickpocketing equipped items perk is to quietly disarm your enemy, not to get his cool stuff.

As I'm a assassin I'll go for the poison perk. Anyone know a good way to level up pick pocketing? Or is it just to pick everyone you see and load if it goes to hell?
