Doom Doomed?

Seriously not trolling, just cannot agree with this more. You are doing the right thing, Bethesda, if this is true. Id and Carmack have become the George Lucas of gaming, and we need to stop holding them to different standards because of the awesome work they did a long time ago. RAGE at best was good, but realistically, was below average, IMO. This suffered from identity crisis just like Doom 3 (am I survival horror or am I a shooter). The PC port of RAGE was lazy. Id is gone (to space in their silly fisher price rocket ship...ok that was a troll, sorry) and we will jave to wait for another company to create the "spiritual" Doom 4. On a side note, cannot wait for Skyrim.

Doom is a proven franchise, not doing a Doom game because a new IP wasnt accepted in a way they wanted it to be is silly.
Unless what we are suppose to take from this is that Rage is the template of what Doom IV was going to become. Hubs, vehicles, crafting, different ammo, etc.

Could you imagine if that was the case? Ugh...

Would be real nice if id or bethesda made a comment on this. They've been real quiet lately.

I wouldn't go as far as to say a disaster imo, they sold half million copies in the first week (I think), that's def. better than some games have sold this year for a number of weeks being released I think Vanquish has just about sold that amount (released quite a while ago) and it was a cracking shooter which looked great as well, don't quote me, thats just of the top of my head. I think the PC version of RAGE was a bit of a disaster tho, but no real reason to postpone DOOM 4, no reason at all, I hope id stick with it and don't postpone it :)

absolutely no facts surronding anything here.

RAGE was actually a big success for id... for starters, sold like crazy, especially on console. Even for being a new IP.

And a random mole giving his "good word" that this is actually true?

Sorry Kotaku, but anyone can claim to be anyone, and with the right know-how, easily fool a magazine or journalist into beleiving something.

I mysel have done this back in April earlier this year when I photoshopped a tornado into a picture at my local mall here in Cincinnati the day after the huge tornado went through a couple states and killed 300 people (course the picture i photoshopped was done far earlier). It went viral on my facebook, spread to near a million people in a couple of hours, made it all over the news and radios and tv, even made time-life's "most famous photoshops in history". Thing was it was all a hoax, and duped even the best, and nearly got me thrown in jail for people jumping to conclusions. Very easy to fool people.

Bethesda's PR Pete Hines responded back to Kotakus questions about this, and informed that Bethesda has NOT postponed, delayed, or cancelled any of their or ids games in development.

Kotaku just updated it a few moments ago.

And he confirms directly in response about id on his twitter:

2 products that are essentially already "done" ?

Doom4 will probably happen, but it won't be the "PC based/favored" game we'd all hope it would, it'll be a watered down "to the minus tenth power" that Carmack is embracing (consoles = more sales = more money = faster cars & more rockets for Carmack to launch into space) ... ::face palm::

(when was carmack one to backdown like this - trailblazer, coined SO many phrases, and now is slipping into bed with the fat ugly chick because she's "easier"... what a shame)

Im sorry, but why does it have to be one or the other? I haven't played Rage yet but with Doom I felt like it did a good job of mixing the two, though I haven't played it in some time.

From what I've heard, the worst thing about Rage was its bad QA, which is more of a Bethesda hallmark than id's, who've usually been much better in that regard.

Rage isn't a bad game by any means. The main gripe that I keep hearing is the story was too short and just ended. It doesn't bother me one bit. There is enough in Rage to keep me occupied.

The Rage forum is constantly being spammed it's ridiculous. (That's where this thread came from.)

I highly doubt Doom is canceled as it hasn't even been officially announced.

Remember that, before you get too invested in this, at the moment the news is entirely unconfirmed. We've contacted Bethesda for comment and clarification, and will update if we hear back.

Yes, will someone please get these guys in check?!

Okay so we gave you not as much creative freedom but because you couldn't lie good enough about the game we have lost all faith in you. yeah that sounds like a reasonable argument.

It would make sense if the game was given the treatment and freedom that devs want to give their games and used to give their games. Games for Gamers not Games for Profit. Then this would be a very valid argument but I blame corporate oversight before I blame the project manager. I mean you knew the game ended that way, you knew the game hand problems, you knew all of it and YOU chose not to do anything about it so if someone is going to get shuffled or fire let it be the oversight people who just let the problem go on instead of give the devs extra time and freedom which contrary to corporate belief do actually sell video games, see Cathrine for example.

I agree completely, i'd also like to state that its DOOM, all of them were amazing, and this one will be too. I don't know why everybodies freaking about RAGE, it exceptionally well for a new IP. Hold on a sec why are we talking about rage agin, this is the doom forum.
