I want to download the Doom 3 binary for Linux. Whats up with iD Software's FTP server?

Thanks dude, but I only touch binaries from an official distribution channel or my Linux distributions repository.

As far as I understand it, the ftp is being 'retired'. Didn't hear if there were alternative plans to rehost. Their devsites zerowing.idsoftware.com and www.iddevnet.com are down too, apparently for rehosting - so maybe the ftp stuff will be made available elsewhere too. The DNS records for the sites all point to Zenimax name servers now.

Damn them! The FTP server had lots of important files on it! The id software website even has links to the patches on FTP.

Apparently FTP has only been down for few weeks?

They better bring back the dev sites and FTP by the time they release Doom 3 source or a lot of people are going to be pissed.

I could be that the server they were using for FTP was getting old and dies on them. I do hope the create a new server though.

Anyway where did you find out about it being retired?

I last accessed the FTP two days prior RAGE's release.

Bethseda dogs are doing a good job at ruining every iD created. Now I cannot access any Linux binaries, luckily I have the Quake 4 binary. I was going to purchase QW:ET next month (too busy in life ATM for gaming), now it looks like theres no point.
