Doomsday Preppers

I like the Zombie Survival guide as weil. With a little common sense, you can adapt it's tips to any social collapse issue.
I actually have that, but I wouldn't use it. It's a joke book really, it's why I bought SAS Survival Handbook. And so far I really like it to.

Well obviously. But it's more a 'survival tips put in laymans terms'. But seeing as I'm going to Navy basic in June, I'll likely learn more survival tips.

I haven't really looked into the zombie guide, a friend is reading it right now. I'm joining the Army, right now the only thing holding me back is my weight. I need to lose not only fat but muscle, which is annoying since I worked so hard to gain that muscle...

You don't necc need to lose muscle, you just need to be sure your BMI is in check, if your weight is mostly muscle, there is a special test to determine it, I can't recall what is exactly.

Colonel there is a reason people think nothing bad will ever happen, people refuse to do anything about anything till it staring them in the face. If it's not a immediate problem then it isn't a problem. I was born in 91 when the Soviet Union fell, my generation didn't have the big looming "nuclear war" over out head's. There is no big boogeyman till 9/11 happened and even then people are still detached from reality. The threat of nuclear war has been replaced with nuclear terrorism, which quite frankly should be more terrifying to people. The Soviet stockpile isn't entirely secure, one of the guys working at a disarmament plant for stole a little bit of uranium a day for years so he could buy a fridge for his family. And that's just one thing, there are so many other reason's to prep. It's not all about man-made disasters either, natural disasters that are seasonal/regional are a rather big reason to prep or "bugout". Again, it's not all about prepping for the end of the world people, it's also about being prepared for anything.

Yes I did see the Colony, I'm waiting to see if there will be another season. Though as a experiment it just goes to show how bad people are at surviving in this modern world we live in. And if you watch it I'm sure you had moment where you went " come on how stupid are these people??"
See now I have no issue with preparing for such events. But you are clearly more insane than I.

On a side note, GOD this show is unbearable. I don't care about Fat McChubbins storing hoardes of food, I thought this show was going to be an informative 'How to survive ___ scenario' kind of show. :/

I didn't see Doomsday Prepper. I did see a while ago how some people became multi-millionares (or billionaries) selling crap to those that belive in the end of the world. These end of the world theories are made up so people can make money selling things people otherwise would never buy.

No idea, it's a dumb thing anyway, when they measure your neck, just give yourself a 'stubby' neck by tilting your head back, thats what the recruiter when I tried Army did.

Don't you guys joining the army kinda find it ironic that at the same time you are prepping for some "maybe" scenario where some other country decides to invade your country guns blazing then at the same time someone in whatever country you are afraid of may be prepping him or herself for when the "maybe" scenario of your country coming to their place guns blazing by joining their own army ? And then you both yell "terrorist" at each other and prep yourself better and better to be able to deal with each other ?

Sounds like a lot of trouble could be saved by simply not giving others a reason to think they have to defend themselves from you.

You got to remember though, all the people that are doing this are the crazy ones or actually trying to help but getting drowned out by the crazies. I would suggest watching the pathfinder youtube videos made by Dave Canterbury. Pretty informative and he's a pretty cool guy, I wish Cody Lundin would do something similar for the Southwest.

When did anyone say the US would be invaded? How can it be ironic if no one is thinking that except you?

51% of Americans believe a economic collapse is likely to happen with 25 years.

Well what I wrote was mostly meant for those who in fact do feel threatened by other countries and look at it as "serving their country" to go to war. When soldiers do so many horrible things to innocent civilians in other countries and then get hailed as war heroes it just makes my blood boil and I think to myself "well I suppose in more recent times to peace I suppose those people must be on the decline" and then I see people aspiring to be soldiers and I feel silly to have thought human nature would change that fast.

The navy as I understand it is mostly just delivering supplies and such from one place to another but in the end they are still helping the other branches of the military with their goals. Which at times don't seem all that honorable.

But that's a whole another discussion I suppose.

However on the discussion on preparing for invasions from other places and such things as "nuclear war" I'd say the best tactic to neutralize the thread would be to spread information. And then if possible by providing better and easier access to the internet in places where it is not as common to be able to browse it freely as in most places in Europe and America. Letting people interact with each other to let them find out that the people on the other side of the world aren't all that horrible is a very effective way to stop them from wanting to do each other in. Just look at most all of Europe and America. Can you honestly say those two will ever again have a war either against each other or within each other ? Heck I sure as heck wouldn't join a war effort against some place with people I liked such as the people on these forums. (Or just any war effort really, wars should be abolished with information, not supported with more fear mongering).

When did anyone say the US would be invaded? How can it be ironic if no one is thinking that except you?

No one directly says that but I've had a lot of discussions over the last few years with people who felt the need to join the army to "protect their country from the terrorist [insert country here]". It seems to be a common reason for people to wish to join the army.

It's a holdover from when getting Tomahawked in the neck was a real concern for American soldiers. You just never know.

My Doomsday prep is to move to New Zealand. No-one would waste missiles/invasion forces on Australias little brother. (Or I'll save money and move to Tasmania, it's almost as neglected.)

But the number of inbreds down there make it no different to the Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3 :P

It would be really unfortunate then if someone invaded us while your enlisted, wouldn't it? Also I think I read somewhere that the national guard now has training for if we get invaded.

I'm already prepared. I've got my spot picked out so I can have front row seats to watch as the world burns. I'm gonna throw a party too. It's gonna be epic.

Instead of wasting time and resources for preparing for the apocalypse we could - you know - work to prevent it.
But of course that's too much of an effort.

However if the apocalypse comes I will be safe. I am in Finland, the nation nobody can locate from the map. In a few years I will also be huddled in a laboratory so I'll be among the first ones who gets the vaccine against The Virus. In fact, I may be one of those who made it.
