So I wanted to see what would give me Grand souls. I ventured out from Whiterun, and saw some mammoths. Just before attacking though, I heard a roar. Looking up I saw 2 dragons! One was nearby, the other a little ways away. I went towards the near dragon and dismounted from my horse. As I prepared to cast Fireballs, BOOM!!! The dragon crash landed behind me. Dead. I collected it's soul and pulled out my bound bow (no archery perks) to get some souls.

I started firing at a mammoth nearby, and Lydia joined me. As it approached, a 2nd mammoth began it's slow walk towards us. Lydia pulled out her sword and shield, and rushed the first mammoth. I just kept pummeling them with bound arrows.

After dropping the first mammoth, I noticed a 3rd one approaching, as well as a giant! I was definitely feeling nervous, because my last run in with a giant resulted in my suffocating in outer space.

Lydia, however, was apparently unfazed, even when the second giant began approaching and we were still fighting the first. Together we took down all 3 mammoths, and 2 giants.

Anyway, that's my story. Got a couple Grand souls and a few Greater, as well as some loot from the giant camp. It was a pretty interesting experience. I'm on Master difficulty (level 41) by the way, and didn't even cast a single spell. Lydia was just super deadly.

So for discussion value, have your companions ever been super heroic?

I have heard of Lydia getting ridiculously strong and owning everything, yes.

My follower solo'd the final boss. I felt so dragonborny...

When it comes to combat skills, Lydia is impressive. Although when it comes to pressure plates and other traps, she's dumber than a bag of hammers.

Wait... but I thought they didn't level properly unless respawned.

A Dragon, 3 Mammoths, and 2 Giants.... walk into a bar.

She's awesome in the sack to boot!

Yeah, I last respawned her around lvl 38 or something so she's pretty high up. AFAIK companions can get up to 50 with you.

She's wearing Dragonbone armor and prefers S/B. What do you expect?

On a side note, you can give her a soul trap weapon and a bunch of unfilled gems and she will fill them up for you. No need to invest in the conjuration tree if you are a mage.

Mjoll turned into a monster for me. She tanks better than any of the other comps I have used, and actually runs a decent bow if you equip her with one. She also started using cabndlelight on her own(??) which was pretty useful for Raghot...

Mine got sacrificed

Illia my mage companion took down a dragon and killed it in about a min flat. I was well impressed with that one. It just left me to soak up the dragons soul and collect it's bones.

She loves carrying your burdens after all.
