"Dragonborn" or "thu'um" Skill tree?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:30 am

Am I the only one that thinks there should be a skill tree that alters your shouts abilities slightly? Quicker cooldown, further range, ect. Or maybe after killing a certain amount of dragons you gain a perk. Also, the greybeards should present you the robes they wear if you do not kill paarthanax, or after you fully upgrade all shouts. They'd be pretty awesome to run around in if they have some buffs on your shouts. Plus, its one of the only realistic looking sets of armour/robes that still looks badass.

Mentioning Big P.

But yes, a Shout/Thu'um skill tree would've made sense. Like... derp

Yeah, OP, you need to edit your post and put the bit about what's-his-name in spoiler tags. If you do that they likely won't move the thread to the spoiler section.

this would have been nice, and a good way to make your shouts svck less.

Definitely. Closest thing you get to that is the meditation on the words of power which is barely useful. Faster health regen while in spectral form..a shout I rarely use except to cast scrolls while in a huge fight. Stagger less and cause enemies to stagger more, a bit better, but when I tried it I didn't really see a difference. Best one imo, is fire within which I have which makes fire breath do 25% more damage, basically turning your shout into a massive inferno fire bomb. I love shouting and seeing a few bandits bandits drop in front of me, or bring a couple trolls down to a quarter of health.

I'm not sure how they'd flesh such a tree out, but it's still a good idea. There's also the question of how good shouts would be allowed to get this way, given that they're a subset of the Magic archetype and buffing them too much would render certain standard spells worthless.

One thing I'd like to see them do regardless is to separate the recharge timers, assuming that's possible, as it gets really irritating when you want to use a shout but one with a long cool-down is still ticking away. Just noticed the 'quicker recharge' idea, which would probably work instead if the amount we could reduce them by was high enough.

I don't know for sure but I'm guessing there's no female version of the Greybeards' robe, which is one reason it's not available to the player. Anyone know if there is one?

I see no reason for it. The thu'um powers are supposed based on stealing dragon's souls, directly absorbing their knowledge. Not by leveling other skills. There isn't supposed to be any education involved.

Actually, the Thu'um is a power that usually requires heavy study and experience with to become powerful with it. Every Nord has the ability to use the Thu'um, but only a handful have studied it. The thing about the Dovahkin, is that he can absorb such knowledge//experience from Dragons when he slays them, because he has the soul of a Dragon. That's what makes the Dragonborn so special.

It'd be pretty cool if the right hand side of the "Speech" tree was perks that buffed Dragon Shouts, instead of some [censored] "Bribe/Persuasion/Intimidate" perks, especially considering those options don't pop up enough in dialogue to be worth it, and just raw skillpoints in Speech are more than enough to succeed at such checks. Have a perk reduce the cooldown of Shouts by 20%, and another perk increase the duration/potency of shouts by 25%, and another perk that increases the range/AoE of applicable shouts, etc.

There's a mod that makes Speech affect shouts. I haven't tried it, personally.

there's a mask that has an hidden enchantement for shouting in it. There's also the amulet of Talos to reduce cooldowns and you can get Talos' blessing.
