Dragons Afraid of my Awesomeness?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 10:57 am

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this with different characters they play or when watching someone else play. It seems that when my wife is playing she is running into random dragons at least every 30min or so. Me? I've put 10+ hours into my Orc Warrior and only had one random dragon attack. Killed the one at the Watchtower for Main quest at beginning and then another one on a bounty quest. So 3 dragons total in 10 hours of game play..seems a little off to me. My other toons would run into them frequently, but something is wrong when I run all the way to Makarath from Whiterun and not 1 random dragon attack. Last time I did that on my other toon I had 4 dragons pretty much back to back.

I think the further you are into the main quest the more you see. I read that in the forums, no clue if it's true though. Right now I am not far into the MQ and I only killed maybe two dragons that I never went hunting for and I have been running all over the map.

It's random, I'll grant you that. I've had five dragons pop down on me when I've been to Morthal six times total via fast travel. They are completely random, and nothing can change that... if you play a bit more, you will find plenty of them. I went ten hours without dragons once, and just as I was thinking that none would get me, I kill a goat and a blood dragon slams down into the middle of the road and starts to charbroil Lydia.

I have long stretches of no hot Dragon Action. :( But then sometimes I fire up the game and see them frequently. I have found - though normally I don't fast travel much - that using the fast travel t will often spawn a dragon within a short time span. If you travel to one of the towns, if you don't go into the town, but head out.

I do have a problem in that I am super stealthy and my dragons often won't come close enough for me to hit. :( I see them flying around, attacking local flora and fauna, and I am jumping up and down trying to attract their attention and they decide to go after a yummy mountain goat instead.

You are very lucky... either the dragons ignore me completely and fly off into the sunset, or they strafe me whenever I am not in cover. No Dragonrend shout, so that means that I have to shoot arrows at them randomly to pull them down out of the sky and attract their attention.

Fast travel speeds up the time between dragon encounters, since its skipping time to travel. So if you want more encounters more often use some fast travel in the game for a bit. Or alternatively, start visiting the Mages College as they love flocking there.

Yeah could be the fast travel thing. This toon I've been trying to limit the amount of fast travel I do; ie: only doing it if I'm at my encumbrance limit and have to go sell stuff. Maybe I'll go do some more main quest action and see if that helps out a bit. thanks

That place must be a hot spot for them then. I fast traveled there once and I was met with two dragons, two frostbite spiders and two or three mudcrabs. Best fight ever.

Fast travel defiently spawns them a lot more than the old head out and explore routine.

I've roamed for weeks and not a peep, than fast travel a couple places, and Skyrim seems to be crawling with them.

Yeah, I purposely fast travel when I want to try and trigger them.

Everyone says the mages colleges spawns them regularly if you travel there, but I tried it a dozen different times and no dragon. Morthal and outside of Markath on the other hand...

I've seen a good number of dragons with my primary character. Unfortunately they often just seem to float around and scream, but don't attack. I guess maybe those dragrons figure my character is too awesome to attack. It's actually very annoying. Alot of times I just want to leave in disgust, but I feel like as soon as my character leaves they'll swoop down and destroy some defenseless village.

With my first character (he's lvl 21) I have killed about 7-8 dragons and I started playing a second character (lvl 9) and I just killed my second dragon. So it seems to be very random when you meet them. One flew over but didn't care to bother with me... and I missed when I tried to take him withe my bow

As mentioned above, fast traveling spawns them. Every time I fast travel a dragon spawns, it never fails.

Also, if you finish the main quest they spawn too often, a day went in-game time, I killed 4 dragons.

I found that when my warrior wears the fur armor with his chest completely exposed the dragons keep clear. lol

If you named your character "Neil Patrick Harris", then dragons may very well be afraid of your awesomeness.

You shoulnd't have to go too far into the main story line either to get more to trigger. That being said, much like the others, I have went days without seeing 1 dragon, and then found like 3 in 1 hour (real time, not in-game).

I'm a chronic restarter. I've noticed on some builds, the dragons appear almost constantly and other hardly ever. It's not related to how far along the main quest since all builds are played up to the same point in the quest-line. It seems random.

I haven't seen any dragons aside the one from the tutorial. Guess they don't touch their scaly buddies

I saw a second random dragon yesterday. I thought, "Oh boy!" Then it flew away. -__-

I see a lot of them off in the distance. I've probably seen more far-away, non-attacking Dragons than attacking Dragons. There's quite a number of Dragons in my game, but relatively few of them are close enough to attack my character.

It's like how all dogs want to pee on the same bush. Once one dragon shows up in a place, all the other ones want to come along and put their scent on top of it.

This is only mildly related, but I remember reading somewhere that the dragons themselves perform random activities and aren't always there to attack you.

Best example of this: I did read that some of the dragons aren't meant to attack you, but just to investigate what you're up to on behalf of the Bane of Kings. One time, when exitting Solitude I had one -plain- dragon follow me all the way to Dragon Bridge and beyond before just roaring off in to the mountains.
