this post is out of curiosity, my gf has just got skyrim for christmas and currently i am watching her play. now i know she played oblivion to death without ever closing an oblivion gate, and with this she hasn't really paid much head to the main questline.

my question is this, is it possible that until you do the main questline where you help the jarl of whitrun take down the first dragon and become declared dragonborn, that you will infact not ever see a wild dragon.??

she's still not that far (about level 9) but shes ventured past shearpoint without the sniff of a dragon. i was wondering if anyone else played it like this and knows more.

Yes, until you encouter the Whiterun dragon... dragons won't appear in the world.

How ever.. NPCs will still often comment on how dragons are attacking places. I guess you can assume they are talking about Helgen.

You won't get dragons unless you do that quest.

cool i thought so, but i guess when i played through, i did all the early main questlines up until that point without really thinking what would i happen if i never did any of it.
