dragons breath, magicka based or not?

Would resist magick equipment and skills help to resist a dragons breath?

Dragon Breath is still a spell, and can be resisted by wearing the appropriate gear. I have a Nord Archmage that uses the attacks to recharge (Alteration fully perked).

While resistance to the specific element bring used has worked better for me magicka resist does apply to shouts, and dragon breath is just a shout.

magic resistance WILL affect dragon breath as well magic absorption.

draining a dragon;s magicka to zero will also stop them from doing any breath attacks.

in my experience its whatever it is. So frost dragon breath (white stuff) is cold/frost resist. Fire breath is fire resist.

I'm a nord with 50 percent frost resist, then I also stuck 44 shock resist and 44 fire on my shield. Then I also got the shield perk
to block part of the damage while the shield is up, from such things. On master difficulty, I can move towards a casting mage or a dragon
breathing on me and take very little damage (with the shield raised.)

The way magic defense works in the game is the incoming damage is first reduced by your magic resistence which is capped at 80%, then it is reduced by your resistence to the particular element.

If you are good in alchemy and have some fortify alchemy gear it's easy to make resist fire and frost 80% potions who let you pretty much ignore the breath.
