Dragons! What do you do?

I'm feeling garrulous.

OK we got incoming, horrible screaming flying monster, most likely right behind me. Run, seek some kind of cover, cue up and drop the hot girl (Flame Atronach) and hit 7 for the Deadric bow, or perhaps pull out the Vampire sword, depends how close he is ... now. Get turned around and see where the hot girl is shooting at, one of the main reasons I use her, engage monster. OK we got an Ancient Frost Dragon and I'm a Dark Elf.

Time to configure. Hit Tab and put on anti frost necklace, chug anti frost potion and equip Dragonbane, make sure the arrows are Deadric. Select correct Shout. Hit Tab and run, probably drop another hot girl, they don't last long. Shout em' if you got em'. I have the Atronach key on 3 and it alternates nicely with the Spellbreaker shield, which I have on 4. Put the shield back and asses cover possibilities, move fight towards better cover if possible. Engage Dragon with arrows or, if he's right there, sword. Whittle him down to 1/3 and then after making sure you are good get in front of the svcker and shield bash and hack him with the sword till he croaks. You get the good kill animation about half the time.

I put on my necklace of the firewalker & spam(plus nightingale armour for frost)the dragon with marked for death, Then i run away like a big girly & let poor faendal finish it off with his shiny Dragon bow.
Works like a charm.

Faendal is useless at my level, I've kept him this long due to the massive guilt trip i had after taking back all of the training money.

Just gain a few levels and boost magic resistance by any means. Dragons are really only a threat at lower levels. They're still fun to stab, though.

4. Walk up and hack away
5. "Why'd you make them so underpowered Beth?"

As soon as I hear the flap of the wings or the roar of the beast, I save my game. I do that so if people die, I can fight again and more will live...I don't like it when they die....or a horse or a dog. One time at Markarth the farmer, his wife and one of the dogs all died so after I did it again, they all lived. That dragon was a tough one each time too.

After saving, I drink a potion after seeing if the dragon is flaming or icing everything and I make sure my bow is equipped and poisoned. I use that until it's time to use dual-cast Firebolt to bring the dragon down. My current character is an Imperial named Ysabel Maro and she's more battlemage than mage so once the dragon is down, she'll go after him with an enchanted axe. She did get a finishing move jumping on his head once...first time that ever happened since I usually play mage. Keep your eyes on the skies! :tes:

1. Destruction potion
2. Dual Cast thunderbolt
3. Kills ancient dragon in 7 hits for me on master

*This is endgame though when I have Destro Perks and 100 alchemy. Seriosly though dragons stagger with dual cast so they are easy anyways.

I'm not sure it's an issue with dragons being underpowered, as much as it is the dragonborn becoming overpowered. They'd have to make dragons near invincible to give a high-level character a challenge.
