Dragonscale Armor..do you have to MAKE it?

Is crafting the Dragonscale armor the only way to get it? Is it possible to find it?

Yes, you can find it. I have found various Dragonscale armor pieces in the game. Random and very rare I assume.

You can find it in random loot once you hit a certain character level, but it's often faster to just make it yourself. Typically, by the time you hit the character level necessary for it to start appearing in loot, you could have crafted many sets of the same armor.

More often than not, it's usually cheaper and more efficient to just simply craft it yourself.

It's very, very rare. I've found it a few pieces on a couple of characters, but never a full set. Some of them were also enchanted, which is useless if you want custom gear. It's about as rare as daedric- chances are you'll never find a full set of either, except for daedric gear there's always the atronach forge if you don't want to invest in smithing. If you want dragonscale, you'll have to make it yourself unless you're really, really lucky.

My first character eventually pieced together a full set from random dungeon chests. Her highest smithing perk was Elven. Didn't wear it since she's a full mage.

I've found several peices of dragonscale armor, so far it's been mainly chest peices and one Dragonscale Sheild of Major Blocking (35% More damage blocked) so you don't need to waste any perks into smithing to get the armor or to improve it. Also it's the same way with finding Daedric armor and Weapons so far I have 2 daedric swords and a Bow.

I'm level 52 and find a Dragonscale/plate gauntlet or helmet every now and then. Haven't gotten round to the actual armor pieces yet.

Im not big on smithing but since every armor/clothing mod uses it (good thing) I picked it up. Its actually kind of fun when you start doing it.

Yeah you can find them in random chests. I found some enchanted dragonscale gauntlets and a helmet in dungeons before.

Also, I found an enchanted glass helmet today at level 12, which is strange. So I don't really know at what level you can start finding high level items. I used to think it was 30 something for dragonscale/dragonbone, but I think it might be lower now. Maybe 1.5 changed it?

Yeah you can find it in loot. According to UESP, dragonplate appears at level 40 and 41 enchanted. Meanwhile dragonscale appears at level 46, enchanted at 47. Although It does state that it is 20x harder to find than other armors.

Smithing's insanely easy to level right now, too. Gather up a bunch of gold ingots and flawless amethysts, and craft Gold Jeweled necklaces. You'll rocket right up.

I only found the shield so far on my lvl 71 character, and I'm compulsive enough to open every container I pass.

Level up smithing and you can not only craft it yourself, but also improve it and your weapons :celebrate:

i found a piece in a chest the other day but I'm only 97 smithing so have to wait to improve it... so it does drop from time to time very rare I'd say. I am level 47

You can find pieces, but it will be pretty difficult to find a full set.

In four characters that have all reached level 49+ I've only ever found one chest piece of Dragonplate and have never come across any Dragonscale of any type anywhere. What that amounts to is in some 200 levels worth of playing, I found one piece of one type of dragonbone/plate gear. It's safe to ssay you ccan build your smithing level a tad quicker.

I too have found random pieces of dragon armor. The problem is it is random and very rare. With four characters I have never found a full set. I have found only one dragonscale torso armor, and of course it was with a character that didn't use armor at all.

I found the full set. Not at one place of course but through about ten hours of just dungeon delving, I found the full set. Incredibly rare but in the end, I just said screw it and modded the game. Put the full set on a really hard enemy and cranked up the stats to ridiculously high (basically Alduin on Master difficulty) and then I made it so I had to beat him to get it.

I have found dragonscale armor in the game twice. Once in a storage container next to Igmund Uncle in Markarth. The other in some random cave somewhere. Dont know what level I was on when it happened but was probably at 40+.

Most of the dragonscale I have I made myself though.
