Draw distance issues - NPCs not rendering

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 9:49 am

I did a search, and found a lot about uGridstoLoad, but I'm unclear as to whether this affects NPCs or just environment.

I just got this on PC; I've been playing on 360 so I'm not hugely concerned about graphics. It would just be nice to be able to actually SEE archers that are shooting me. Some NPCs and structures aren't rendering until I am 25-30 feet away. I will sacrifice framerate and graphics quality.

I guess the obvious first question to ask is, what are your view distance sliders set to? Have you monkeyed with uGrids already?

You've got a very weak CPU and it could be some bottleneck issue there

Object - 2, Actor - 2, Grass - 0, Specularity - 2, Light - 2, Item - 1. No, I have not touched anything in the .ini file. I've changed nothing thus far.

I had a feeling this would have something to do with it. It seems to be barely enough to run the game from what I've read. I was given this PC for free, and i don't have the money for a new CPU right now, so I guess I will just have to deal with it.

Any tips that could help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah, your CPU is below even the power of the XBox360 CPU. I'd advice upgrading to something like a Core2Duo when you can or even a AMD to save some money.

Okay, try this and see how things look
Anti Aliasing off
Anisotropic filtering off
FXAA off
Texture quality high (Try this for now and you could lower it later)
Shadow detail low (shadows have a huge impact on lower end systems)
Decal Quality Medium (this setting doesn't seem to have a large impact but you could lower it later if need be)
Untick all water reflections (if you can get acceptable frames you can enable more reflections later)
Now, try setting the Object, Actor and Grass fade sliders to max. Put all the others sliders at medium.
Tick Object Detail Fade and set distant textures to medium.

See how it runs. From here, you can decide what your priorities are. Lowering screen resolution might be the next thing to try.

Outstanding! This helped immensely. Looks like I took a slight FPS hit, but nothing big.

It really svcked not to be able to see a sabrecat until he was eating my face.

Thanks very much, I'll keep this updating if anything goes wrong. Definitely going to save up for a new CPU, though.
